Is BF one of those that can eat and eat and eat and not put on a pound? Because I think if my DH was getting cakes every weekend, I'd have to drag him out for a run every night  Cheesy. Alek, if you start shipping overseas, I guarantee you, we'd all send you better comments than a "looks nice, let's eat."

How about this idea, Alek - next week-end, just whip up a "Plain Jane" cake for him to eat. You know, one with absolutely NO decorations at all. See if he says anything is missing. Grin

Oh, and you can send the fancy cake over to the 'Itchmo Party' that we'll have next week-end. Everyone is invited! It's party time! Grin  Grin

Thank you everyone, I wish I could send a cake.

This one is not entirely successful, thanks to my genius turning on the aircon in an inappropriate moment so pattern on the top got partly blown off. Argh. Well, at least it is tasty, even if it doesn't look that good.

But the flower on the top looks OK, even if the AC was turned on at a bad time. I just love your photos.

Looks lovely and tasty from where I sit. Alek, what flavours are the cakes inside and are they layered with buttercream?

Bug, I don;t use buttercream since bf thinks it doesn't taste good. For same reason, he doesn't like fondant, and most other things which are good for decorating. There are so many lovely ways to decorate a cake (I love royal icing on white fondant and gumpaste flowers, it is so elegant), but I can do this just when I do a dummy cake for fun, for real cakes I have to stick to his very strict definitions of "edible". So I usually just use whipping cream+whipping cream fix for the outside, or chocolate ganache. In this case, the sponge layers are almond+orange (no flour, just almonds), apricot jam, pomegranate filling, white chocolate ganache with orange flavor.

Oh man, I can just taste it now. That sounds absolutely fabulous. I'm not a fan of fondant, either except for looks -- too sweet, but I do like a nice buttercream filling and sponge cakes are just the best.
