Sorry to hear about your brother.  I will keep him in my thoughts.  Also sending hopes that you will find a good solution for Socks' care.

This is such a tough decision to make, I've been in it before.  The vet tech home visits are a good idea, but if that isn't available, at least Socks would be under good care at the vets office.

Another thought - could Socks stay in a room at someone else's house while you're gone?  Maybe with one of the vet techs?  That may a little less stressful than a vet cage, and she would have more company that way.  She does know the vet cage though, so that may be more familiar.

Sending good thoughts for your brother.

If none of the vet techs do pet-sitting on the side, they may know of good pet-sitters to recommend.

Sorry to hear about your brother.  I hope you can work something out that would be good for both you and Socks.  Is there a chance you can have a room that can be set up that Socks couldn't get under anything and hide where a petsitter might be able to catch her?
I had to put comforters around my bed to blockade access when Snowy was so sick otherwise she would dive under the bed and crawl to the center so I couldn't get to her.  She hated to be medicated so much and towards the end she was receiving meds around the clock.  Once I put the blankets around the bed we were good.  I could catch her once she didn't have out of reach hiding places to turn to.  Best of luck, I will keep you in my prayers.

Judy sounds like a good idea to ask at the vets if they know of a reliable sitter, preferably someone who would be willing to have Socks at their home while your visit your brother? Will say a prayer that someone is able to help you out to care for Socks.

Thank you all for your support.  My brother is home now but I still need to figure a way to go visit.  I don't know how much time he has left.

Thanks everyone.

I'm glad he is home now, Judy.  Hospitals are awful.  I hope you can figure out a way to go see him soon - sounds like he could use some time with you, even if it's just for a few days.

Judy maybe there is a rescue animal group in your area that might look after Socks while you go and visit your brother. Just another thought to check into.

I'm glad your brother is home now, Judy. I hope you can work things out to go see him, while arranging the best possible care for Socks.

Judy,

I hope you can find someone to watch Socks for you so you can visit your brother.

Judy, I'm glad your brother is home.  I hope he is getting better and that you get something worked out soon where you can visit him without having to worry about Socks.

Very glad to hear your brother is home. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you can find a safe way to have Socks cared for and can visit him soon.
