Kind of an interesting summary of why there currently is a food crisis:

These days you hear a lot about the world financial crisis. But there’s another world crisis under way — and it’s hurting a lot more people.
I’m talking about the food crisis. Over the past few years the prices of wheat, corn, rice and other basic foodstuffs have doubled or tripled,

interesting perspective on the whole thing.

One thing that always comes to my mind is that nothing in life is free, NOTHING.

If one takes grain for fuel then there is less for food, very logical, but then when have politicians been logical. There is no magic cure for all the problems we face on this planet. It comes down to some hard choices for all of us and politicians don't do hard choices, well not until they get elected, before that everything is promised to become magically "fixed" by their wonderful policies.

And that is what the people want to hear. NO ONE wants to hear that it is going to cost them more to have a cleaner environment, cheaper fuel etc. Everyone thinks there is this magic thing that can happen that will make everything just wonderful.

Bio-fuel supposed to be this magical thing, turns out it isn't and ANY logical person could see that immediately. War in Iraq, supposed to drop oil prices, same thing.

Until the American people get off their lazy butts and stop electing the same people (irregardless of party) to office, nothing will change.

rant is done

I agree. We have to be so careful who we vote for . And examine everything you can about that person first.

Maybe we should all be very worried. I was listening to We the People Radio News today and heard a disturbing report that the government is buying large quantities of survival food supplies. My gut feeling tells me that there is something a foot. The government must know something they're not telling us.  Has anyone noticed depleted supplies of survival food just recently?

I did a google search and came up with someone's post describing their experience with trying to buy survival food....

Government buying up emergency food supplies?
http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299113
so dilligaf is a member of a survivalist forum and she ran across this post today there.
i found it disturbing as yesterday there was a post on the same forums about another bulk food company having a "major announcement" tomorrow and it would seem to insinuate may 18 they will be out of stock as well..
if anyone is interested in discussing this i can have dilligaf dig up the other posts that have the E mail copy and some other links to articles pertaining to this..

what is our government hiding from us now?? does this concern you?

I spoke today to the folks at http://www.internet-grocer.com. I was ordering some cheese and wanted to order the canned butter but they were out. I was told by the sales person that the government had bought their entire shipment when it came in, leaving them with nothing. She said when the government wants it, there was not much they could do.

She said they just did the same thing to Mountain House. Bought almost the entire inventory. If you go to the Mountain House website, it's a pretty empty store right now. Almost everything is unavailable. She said the government has always regularly purchased from Mountain House for the military but this was outside of their usual arrangement.

So here's the kicker. If they are buying up the emergency food supplies, who are they buying them for? They are not stocking shelters for the public. Are they stocking shelters for the government only?

Relatively speaking, I'm not one of the more alarmist types on this board. But this information, to me, speaks volumes.

Let's step it up and get our houses in order, folks.

I went to internet-grocer.com and they had this posted on their site...

April 27, 2008
We're told that the feds bought the entire container of canned butter when it hit the docks. (Something's up!)  We're down to 22 0 cases of butter on hand.
Butter is expected to arrive mid-May.  Get on the "Want Butter"
email list NOW to have yours set aside for shipment
as soon as it comes in.

I went to Mountain House http://www.mtnhse.com and most all their stock is depleted.

I was going to order some long term food supplies from Nitro-Pak, but wonder if I waited too late now:

http://www.nitro-pak.com/

"BE READY.. BE PREPARED
How Prepared Are You and Your Family?

Whether it's an Economic Downturn, Stock Market Crash, Possible Job Lay-Off, Earthquake, Hurricane, Flood, Flu Pandemic, or Terrorist Attack, each of us must be personally prepared to "weather-the-storm" with long storing food reserves, stored water & purifiers, first-aid and sanitation supplies, etc. for a minimum of 2 to 4 weeks. A two to four month reserve or more would even be better.
When crisis strikes, the time to prepare is over. Sort of like trying to buy home fire insurance when the house is on fire. Now's the time to seriously review your preparedness supplies while time is on your side. Got questions? Just call us. We're here to help!
Emergency Supply Headquarters

PLEASE NOTE 04/29/08 UPDATE:

Due to EXTREMELY high customer demand and market volatility, our order processing time for most orders is currently taking 10-18 business days to ship. Orders with food or food units will take longer. Some food items may temporarily be backordered. Thanks for your patience
