Yup, that she did!  Cheesy Thankfully, she traded for cottage cheese so I get to enjoy all but the couple big bites she took. Of course when I'm enjoying it, I'll share with her . . .  not like she would share with me though!

Today was the last day of this season with my CSA. {sigh} Well, at least I was able to put plenty away for the winter!   Grin

Stray, that looks so good!  Im not meaning to hijack your thread here but I know you and others make their own bread and we do have a bread machine sitting up in the garage somewhere and Ive been contemplating it but dont know what type of flour or other ingredients to make it with to buy that might be "safe"....can you offer a not-so-talented gal some advice/instructions on bread-making?

Way to go Dot!  Eat those fresh veggies while you have a chance!

I noticed a lot of the local CSA's here run April through December.  I think I'll sign up for one next year if I'm not growing my own by then.

Sandi K - I just noticed one of our big local organic farms do CSA's to SE Alaska!  Not sure if they deliver near you, but sounds like they have an extensive network of 80 drop off points.  Looks like it's only $10 more a box per week for AK deliveries. Here's the page with prices in case you want to check into it:

If I were to do that living in Alaska, I would do the large box every other week. Better deal if you're a couple or small family. You learn to eat what spoils quickest first, or at least make it into something that lasts longer  Grin Or you can can/freeze for down the road. I made some big stir frys and put most of it away so I can enjoy the veggies in the winter. I stop cooking all but what I want for the current meal so they won't be overcooked when I prepare them later. I literally get my jars/bags/whatever ready before I start a dish so I can just take a minute to put the stuff aside  Smiley If I'm going to can it, I have the water on already and it processes while I finish cooking my meal and eat it.  Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. Kinda like cleaning up a bit as you go  Wink

For bread, I use King Arthur flours  http://www.kingarthurflour.com/ or Arrowhead or Bob's Red Mill. Anything organic from the states  Grin  I have a grain mill and mill my own oat and rice flour. There's a third one I do that I can't remember at the moment, lol!~  I need to go to the farmer's market and see if I can find the wheat lady. Fresh milled flours are amazing! Oat flour smells like heaven! The trick to getting fresh flours at the store is pick a well traveled store that carries and sells lots of organic flours. The shops by me sell a lot of it, so I can generally get freshly stocked flours. A few years ago I couldn't get the quantity I wanted (was baking a ton of dog treats!) so that's why I bought the mill. The shops now stock and sellout 5lb bags. Used to be only one pound bags were available. The basic bread I make is just flour, water, yeast and salt. Make sure the yeast is from the US.
