It's cooking here in Texas, been 104-105 degrees the past few days. Don't feel like getting out much when it's that hot. Animals just lounge around the house absorbing the air conditioning. Sure hate to see my next electric bill though .

I'm almost embarrassed to say that we have been thinking ourselves to suffer mightily here the past several days with temps in the 90s and heat index in the 100s, tesla. Probably would seem cool to you!

tesla are those temps each day with high humidity also - or do you catch a break with lowered humidity days sometimes? Been in 90's here all week so far. Be back in high 70's very low 80's next wk. Cant wait to shut the air off - like my lower electric bills - for awhile at least

Today the high is 105, with the first day in a break in the humidity. Up until today, we have been having hot, humid days and the heat has been utterly oppressive, heat index of 115-120. My poor air conditioner has been cycling constantly, the sad thing is I have it set for 84 degrees because otherwise it doesn't stop running. We are supposed to have one day below 100 next week, only 98 is what they are predicting then back up to triple digits. It wouldn't be as bad if it was drier here, but we still have high humidity which makes it nearly unbearable. Of course, wouldn't you know today my A/C went out on my car. Nothing like getting in the car for the long drive home from work to discover the air when kaput . Hey Sandi, can I come up there and stay with you for a couple of months??? I promise you can come down this way once you start getting snowed in during the winter .

Hey Tesla, what about me? Strangely, Alaska is often warmer than where I am in the winter. You're welcome to come to my neck of the woods, just remember the bug spray .

Putting up Christmas lights when it isn't already freezing out would be fun. We always wait too long here and then regret it. I can't think of that yet. Summer is too short here as it is, so I think I'll go out and mow the lawn today.

I'm growing this plant for the vegetables (summer squash), but when I saw these huge, showy blossoms this morning, I wondered why we don't grow them as an ornamental. Too bad the blossoms last only one morning.

I love the yellow blossoms - the color seems to vibrant and alive. Bet you wish they could have lasted for a lil longer. Ah summer!

I've never eaten the fried squash blossoms, but I have seen basketsful of them for sale at local farmers' markets. Maybe that is what I should have done the year my plants produced all male flowers--at least I would have gotten something to eat out of them!
This squash plant has both male and female blossoms, so I am hoping for a crop of squash. They are the kind of squash that is half yellow and half pale green. You can see the tiny little squashes-to-be at the bases of the female blossoms, even before they open. (These were male blossoms open this morning.)

I enjoyed the photo of the squash blossoms, Catbird, so colorful and detailed. I was about packed to go on the road to Canada, gasping all the way, when they announced our temps will go down into the sixties for the next several nights. A big relief, but kind of spooky for this time of year.

Ever had fried squash blossoms? Delicious. Always used to make them when I grew zucchini
Mom always made these (Italian delicacy), and still does, but I always want to pick too many and then she doesn't have enough zucchini .

Heyyy, seeing how it was just Canada Day and Independence Day is just around the corner... Is anyone here from the Boston area? I always watch the fireworks on TV in total awe of how awesome they are (and how much money is being spent). Dh and I want to get out there one year, soon, to see them live. It must be just amazing!
