The worst is that the Radura symbol is often printed in green, so it looks like a little plant or something. Talk about deceit!

That symbol is defininately (intentionally) misleading, isn't it. And now that we all know that one and avoid it, they are trying to switch it to just a label with words like "cold pasturization" or "electronic pasturization".
They will probably be switching every few years to keep us in the dark about irradiated food. Or just legislate labeling away. We already have the catagories that don't have to be labeled - small amounts of ingredients in processed food, restaurant and institution foods (schools, hospitals, nursing homes, etcetc).

If I didn't know better, I would assume it is one of those "earth-freindly" logos!

Nothing about the symbol suggests irradiation. Especially if printed in green, to me, it would suggest something grown or farmed using low impact, sustainable technologies, as others have stated. Unless you're informed about the meaning.

This is why I posted this. Maybe I'm the only dumb one but I had no clue what the symbol meant......it looked like organic or natural to me. I never would've guessed the true meaning. It's pretty obvious that nobody in our gov't is standing up to help the consumer so we have to help each other. The more you know, the more you can avoid this kind of food. I think skull & crossbones would be more appropriate.......jmho, of course.......

On the link it is stated that the reason this logo was picked cause it was like a smiley face that people would recognize and make them want to buy the food! WTF? Can you just see yourself in the store spotting this on a pkg and saying to yourself: "Oh yummy, some cobalt radiation as an added benefit. Let me definetly buy this item." NOT!

How on earth would anyone connect that symbol w/ irradiation of food! Honest, I've never noticed it. Thought I was a label reader.

I wonder why they don't use the international radiation symbol. Not very appetizing!
