Milk protein concentrate? nervously asking Why would we import that? Where does it come from?

I was freaking out about it during the PFR. We're importing the cheap stuff so those big companies can make more money. Greed isn't just a Wall Street disease.

Someone asked about the Pizza Hut cheese that was recalled.  It was recalled in Taiwan according to Menusux's post on Sept. 26, 2007, at 8:40 a.m. in the 35+ page "Melamine Suspected..." thread in the "Recall (Non Pet Food) heading.

As more and more countries test and ban these "milk" products, I think we'll learn quite a bit more about where this poison has been shipped and just how many products are affected.  The list continues to grow.

The best thing to do is buy single ingredients in their most natural, unprocessed form and cook from scratch.  Make item substitutions for a few months or more until more poison is tracked down, if it can be...  Buy the best food you can and scrimp in other areas.  Cook in bulk on your days off and freeze portions for later in the week.

Did I miss any news reports stating that the FDA is testing numerous products that contain milk or milk products to assure Americans that our foods and beverages are safe?  Let me know if I missed an announcement.

Buy local.  Buy organic.
If you ate today, thank a farmer, hopefully a small, local farmer.

Remember the thousands & thousands of pets that died to give US a wake-up call about the safety of ALL food and products.

Looks like CASEN,XMPC,NESOI are the main US import, then the CSNT/OC,NT-CA/GL
(j-j = Jan - jul 2007 & jan-jul 2008)

Shows they apparently stopped importing the milk protein concentrates in 2006.
So, non-dairy creamers, fake cheese powders, what about hot chocolates? bottled lattes from Starbucks and Caribou Coffee? Bakery products, etc?

I posted this on the other thread, but no one responded.  3cat had VitaSoy in her list of China products watched/rejected for import in other countris, and this is a popular brand of soy milk sold in the US.  Anyone know anything about this?

http://www.vitasoy-usa.com/

"Vitasoy USA Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Vitasoy International Holdings Limited of Hong Kong, a world leader in soy products for more than 65 years."

This place is owned by VitaSoy in Hong Kong. Quite possibly it is another victum of melamine to boost protein content. And if its coming from there just how organic would it be, if at all. Don't do soy of any kind as majority is genetically modified (89%).

Would it surprise anyone if it shows up in evaported milk products, frozen non-dairy items, etc. The baby powdered milk stuff besides the pet food seems like just the beginning of the whole thing as it just continues with new food items being recalled and discovered every few days to contain - at no additional charge to you - MELAMINE, plastic of choice.
