What I would like to know is why does this have a photo of chicken being sold in Wan Chai, Hong Kong? We are indeed one country, two systems and Hong Kong food safety regulations are totally different from across the border.

That being said, China food safety sucks. I avoid buying food imported from China, though it is a pain since I try to buy things produced as close to home as possible (environmental concerns, as well as the fact that it simply tastes better), but since there are very few things grown in local farms most of the food is imported.

I think the photo is just another example of lazy editing.  And sadly too many people lack the education to know the difference.  I'm glad you noticed it, I was too stunned by the article that I didn't even see it!

The chinese chicken will not be labeled. How is that even legal.  Roll Eyes No more chicken for me or the cats unless I know where it's from. I usually buy local anyway but how would you know where the chicken in cat food is from?

I would recommend him to try well known chinese specialties, like chicken feet. He can pair that up with thousand year old eggs, and some stinky tofu. Durian for dessert.

I won't start on politics, but anything making food safety worse for anyone makes me really pissed off. Personally, I would prefer if all food would be easily traceable. I am used to clear labels on country of origin on all fresh &frozen foods, but would love to see mandatory labelling for country of origin for the first 3-5 ingredients in the ingredient list +country of manufacture for all pre-packaged foods.

At a first glance, real Norvegian salmon in the supermarket marked as "product of France" does look weird and funny, but it only underscores how little we know where does our food really come from. Sometimes I wish I could retire to Tonga, and just have a vegetable garden and go fishing to feed us & kitties.
