Poco, I love the contrasts of the red-oranges and greens in these photos!  And the textures in the last picture are a feast for the eyes.

Ferns like that intrigue me.  Have you ever noticed how each smaller part is a replica of the bigger whole?

Poco, those colors just "pop".  The pictures are awesome.  I can't get over the contrasts.  Thanks for sharing

I love that fern sticking through the maple!  Great contrast in color and texture.  And those dogwoods are almost neon.

Striking photos, Poco! Those colors really sizzle! And I love the contrasts made by the ferns. Ferns are some of my favorite plants.

A few leaves have turned here, but then it all just stopped. Our dogwood leaves are still green. Still waiting....

Yuck!  That giant mushroom is gross!   Tongue   Tongue  Ironically, cream of mushroom soup really WAS on my dinner menu last night!   Shocked  Fortunately, I did not see these pictures before dinner!   Undecided   Grin

Love the tree pictures, though, Poco.

OMG - that story of the car and getting lost made me laugh really hard, Poco.  Sorry, guess it wasn't funny then but the way you put it  Grin Grin  I like the part about helping lost people then ending up there yourself.  At least it's in the past and you got back safe.

Those shrooms are totally great for the Halloween theme!

Hmmm, guess that's the "mush" part of the mushroom. Grin Tongue All part of the (ulp) natural world....The fire ants and stinging wasps of plant life, maybe?

Beautiful tree picture! Glad you made it back OK from that excursion. Car trouble in a remote area is the pits!

ROFL!!!

That is a great tree and lake picture.  I was hoping to get a few like that (minus the mountains), but the weather has been terrible.  We've had very strong winds for several days, and the leaves have been ripped off now.  Plus it's been terribly cold, and yesterday there were swirls of the dreaded white stuff in the air!  With memories of near-frostbite getting those lunar eclipse pictures last winter, I haven't ventured out with a camera.

Frightening that you had car trouble in the middle of nowhere!  More of that darkness, I guess.  But it is that time of year.

Surprisingly, it's cold here too. It went down right below freezing last night, and the house is retaining the chill. Kitties are clustered close to the heater. I'm sensitive to cold weather so IMO I am freezing! It's unheard of for this month and it's unfair! Grin (I really shouldn't complain, since didn't it snow today somewhere?)

Hope this isn't an indication of the kind of winter we will be having . . .

Poco, that "outside the forest" landscape is breathtaking.  Both the scene and the photography are wonderful.  After saying I'd never move any further north than we live now, I'm beginning to fantasize living up your way.  Hey, look on the bright side...weather permitting we could walk Poco and Jake together! Smiley

The ferns are also extremely nice.  And then there's the "dark side," which I also enjoyed in a way.  Well, I do really love mushroom shots, and so I just as well view the "after" which is admittedly gross....

I finally have something to report!

Over the last few days, the sturdy greens have been slowly fading; now there are sections of reds, yellows, and oranges amidst them. The dogwood leaves are reddening up, the maples and some of the sweetgum leaves are vermillion, in every direction it's all dabs of light, shade, and color, like what the Impressionist painters tried to capture but in 3-D plus infinity, and kinetic, as breezes ruffle the leaves, and the dark grayish trunks and branches weave through the color.

The mimosa leaves have crisped up and totally left the trees, they're now on the road alongside a few of the newly fallen red and yellow ones. As the sunrays sink lower the shadows expand, leaving a few things highlighted. It's like the sun is saying, "Look at this! See these glowy vines! Look quickly! Before we go dark again for the night."

It's been in the seventies, wonderful weather. Maybe we should call this "Sumtumn". Yesterday I had to rescue a "Walking Stick" bug in the house from my tuxedoed "mighty hunter" Bud and place it outside. Green lizards were jumping in the yard today. In fact, one of the little buggers jumped into the house when I opened the door.

Rain and colder weather are coming, but for two days, it's been just glorious.
