Oh, no! That must have been one heck of a hailstorm. So sorry about all that damage. Cry From my office-mate's experience when a tree fell through her roof in a storm this summer, I know that you are lucky to have gotten your call in early.

How scary!

Cry Oh Fizzy1, so sorry that the hail finally came to your neighborhood. Get some bids for the work and only show your insurance company the highest ones. That way, maybe you can recoup some of your deductible by going with a lower bid. Don't allow your insurance company to choose your contractor.  That should be your choice, not theirs.

Fizzy,
How terrible!  That must have been a terrifying experience.  I can't imagine having hail that bad.  We do have hail here with thunderstorms in the Summer, but never anything that does that much damage since they usually last just a few minutes at the beginning of the storm.  I hope that you can get the most important work done before Winter.

Meowli,
Your pictures are beautiful!  I love the colors of the trees when they change, but hate the fact that it means that cold weather will soon be here.  We haven't had much of a change here yet, but I am sure that will change this week with lower night-time temps.  Of course, we no longer have any big trees in our yard since we had the last of them removed in the Spring (they were dying).  But my neighbors still have trees, so I guess I will still be raking what blows into my yard!  I do miss the shade the trees provided, but they were becoming a danger and we had some big limbs fall with the snow and ice last Winter.

catbird, that is a very unusual flower in your picture.  I don't think I have ever seen it.

Meowli, I love the pics Smiley

Ooh, Fizzy1!  How awful.  Hail has no respect!  And ouch on the deductible!  My insurance agents always push for the higher deductibles and I refuse to take them.  It's worth the little bit of extra a month not to have to shell out that kind of money up front, imo.

I hope the repairs can be done quickly and smoothly, and before the weather turns.

Sorry, Fizzy, but I've been so caught up in my own little drama here that I didn't respond to your post.

What a mess!!! It's tough that you have to deal with so many repairs and an insurance company, besides. Hoping things go smoothly and that you can get some reliable and competent contractors to do the work very quickly. You've gotten a jump on it, it seems, with your early contacts.

Thanks, all.  The adjustor is coming from out of town and will be here tomorrow.  The roofer will also be here to make sure everything gets noted.  He was here yesterday and in addition to what I've already said he thinks we also need gutters and fence repaired/replaced and there is damage to at least 2 vinyl window frames.  Oh well, it could have been much worse!

Meowli, the new cameras are a bit complicated to set up at first but once you get used to them, watch out!  You'll be taking and deleting photos like a pro, lol!  The delete button is the best thing on the camera!!   Cheesy

Ouch Fizzy! That hailstorm sounds like it was a monster! I hope your repair costs aren't too high and everything can get fixed quickly. House repairs are my least favorite thing! I have cracks in the walls from the earthquake and I don't want to deal with them!

I'm taking a break from cleaning up the mess the storm made.  Oh my back!  Lol.  The adjustor says we need a new roof, gutters, paint, window screens and frames, fence cap, and some siding and trim replaced.  They are also reimbursing us for several plant pots, the in-ground lighting, coach lights and the Weber charcoal grill.  We only pointed out the coach lights but he added the other stuff.  Oh, and they are going to pay for the fence to be powerwashed and stained to get rid of the hail marks.  Thank you, insurance company.

I figured out how much we've saved over the 4 years since we went to the high deductible, and we're still ahead of the game.  I feel better!   Grin

ETA:  i guess the adjustor didn't add the little things out of the goodness of his heart, DH says that the roofer pointed them out to the adjustor.  Yay roofer, lol.

Omg.  I promise this is the last post about my hail situation, but I have to correct what I said about the insurance premium.  I was wrong about the savings on the premiums with the large deductible.  I was thinking "per month" instead of annual!!  Just a little bit different, lol.  So we aren't ahead of the game but it's okay.  Sorry!!  Never quote me, lol Cheesy
