"FDA does not believe raw meat foods for animals are consistent with the goal of protecting the public from significant health risks, particularly when such products are brought into the home and/or used to feed domestic pets."
Guess the raw meat I purchase to feed both my pet and myself is safe; it's only if I make that purchase to feed my pet? So if I understand their statement correctly.. I am exposed to a significant health risk only on the days when I buy meat for my pet. I am so glad they clarified that for me.
So leaking raw meat packages on the meat counter, in the shopping carts, over the market floors, on the conveyor belts, in the hands of baggers and cashiers, on the home counter tops, in the home sinks, on the dishes, in the refrig, in the freezer; presents fewer problems than the "significant health risks, particularly when such products are brought into the home to feed domestic pets"; thank you FDA, I feel so much safer now!

That's too bad. I hate that labeling laws allow advertising food as containing particular proteins or grains and then there are several others in the fine print. Makes it tough for people with pets with food allergies. Also the barley does cause problems for a lot of dogs. Poco's vet hates to see it in so many premium foods. I hope the major brands will maintain a variety that fits the needs of dogs with allergies or other problems with glutens.

After reading all the Nutro complaints this week, I just stopped by Petco to have a little lookey.
On the shelf where the Nutro should be is a sign that says:
Due to a production delay, Natural Choice is currently out of stock on certain sizes of food.
Now, that is a coincidence!

Kaffe, Yes, that's right. Mars owns Nutro. http://www.nutroproducts.com/press5-1-07mars.shtmlMars was the company that had tainted food in 2004: "Pet food scare in USA had a precursor The Asian outbreak was little-known in the USA until it was reported last week by the blog Pet Connection."http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-03-10-petfood_N.htm(Thanks to our Carol for finding the original report by Dr. Brown) 5CatMom =^..^ =

Don't forget the salmonella in Red Flannel & Krasdale dog foods last summer, also Mars foods. You remember the ones that made people sick by handling it & they didn't recall all of it either. And never said what else was made in the Pa plant that had the contamination.

I've been trying to obtain samples of unrecalled food held by Menu Foods on discovery in my lawsuit. So far the decisions have gone against me. It's currently in the state supreme court and there's a hearing scheduled for this coming Thursday. According to theory, I have a legally protected right to obtain this type of discovery, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed the previous decisions will be overturned and I'll be able to get hold of some of this evidence. We'll see.
Don, I was wondering if you had your hearing last Thursday and if so, how did it go (if you are able to share it with us)......was it a telephonic hearing?

Don't know if this is related to pet food, but contaminated rice is a problem in some areas: "Human Exposure To Methylmercury through Rice Intake in Mercury Mining Areas, Guizhou Province, China"http://pubs.acs.org/cgi-bin/abstract.cgi/esthag/2008/42/i01/abs/es071948x.html5CatMom =^..^ =
