I have sent a pm to the original poster of that thread. I hope that we will have an update soon.

How could most of the pet food recalls ever be considered complete?  A lot of the food will never be sent back because it was eaten.

Technically, it never will be complete, you're right.  What wasn't consumed also may have been discarded by many once they realized they had recalled food.

BTW--took a minute to check on what happened to the Pets.ca poster (ahaigh9999) who made the post.  Here's the link to this member's information at Pets.ca:

Above link shows the rules prior to registering--it may have been felt by someone that it was slander, etc.--have a look at the rules there and you see how it may have been interpreted.

Don't know if an admin there disabled the account or if the poster deleted it him/herself.

menusux,
Are you registered at the pets.ca site? And if you are, you must be registered for about 2 days before you can pm or see members profile details except for very limited info.

I asked this because I am able to access his profile and he visited the forum early this morning. Of course, since the thread was deleted, I don't know if he will be back. Those were his only 2 posts.

That may be why I can't see the profile--I'm not registered there.  Good to know, though, that he wasn't banned from there.

And I'm not too far from Braintree-- Maybe I can take a ride on Wed if we can get more details from that poster!

Does anyone else live near Braintree and could check up on this? I doubt that Carol will feel much like doing this now,  at least not for a few days anyway.

I've been reading this thread & it really is unbelievable that this crap is still ongoing.

Like all of you have said, I also believe that the recall was so large & so totally disorganized that there are bound to be stores with clerks who could care less (lots of those out there) that didn't handle the recalled food as it was supposed to be handled.  Therefore, if there is recalled food that was never returned & is sitting in their storeroom, it's bound to get back on the shelves.

This probably isn't fair but I won't touch any food from a company that had a recall......or a manufacturer that had problems plus cross contamination.  I still think there is a lot of recalled food sitting around in storerooms just waiting to go back on shelves.  Whether it's intentional or not really doesn't matter as the end result will be the same:  you're going to have a very sick or dead fur baby.

I'm going to try to get to PS in the next day or two to see what they have on sale for toys......don't trust toys made in China but difficult to find anything else (menusux posted a thread about pet toys from China being tested & they were all ok).  The only good thing I can say is that Hannah plays with all of her toys so she doesn't stay with one in her mouth for very long which may be a good thing.  Anyway, I'll go down the cat aisle & see if there are canned/pouched foods by my favorite pet food company (gag puke) that have new UPC codes over old ones.  Maybe I'll even start a big thing & ask why......tee hee. Look at what's now on the Nutro website, dated September 13, 2007 in regard to the "stickered", previously recalled pouches:

http://www.nutroproducts.com/mfrecall.shtml

Nutro Products Cans and Pouches Are Again Available!

City of Industry, CA (Sept 13, 2007) — Nutro’s cans and pouches are again becoming available in Pet Specialty stores across North America and internationally!

New UPC codes have been assigned to the can and pouch product lines that were part of the Menu Foods recall earlier this year. All pouch packaging has been stickered with the new UPC codes prior to filling with product, and all newly filled pouches have an inkjet message of ‘QA OK’ next to the date code which confirms that these products have undergone Nutro’s extensive quality assurance verification checks.

All Nutro products are tested by independent labs to confirm that no melamine is detected in Nutro’s pet foods. We have incorporated this testing into our standard Quality Assurance procedures for all finished products and specific ingredients.

Pet owners can feel confident in our products and contact us directly with questions.  For more information about Nutro’s pet foods or for answers to any questions you may have, please contact Nutro’s Customer Service representatives at 1-800-833-5330, or visit our Web site at (www.nutroproducts.com).

This is the way the Special Kitty & Ol Roy pouches were done for W-M--but I don't believe Nutro had this page on their site until QUITE recently... Wink

"confirm that no melamine is detected"

what about the other 3 or 4 toxins that were detected?! they're ok i guess as long as the melamine isn't present, is that what Nutro is saying . . .  Tongue

i personally wouldn't trust a recalled product unless it was in entirely new packaging. there's just way too much of that stuff floating around out there (pun intended).

I personally wouldn't trust a recalled pet food product PERIOD!

Like I said before, I think there's still some of the recalled food sitting in back rooms just waiting to go back on shelves.  How easy is it to stick on another UPC label & stamp QA ok?  Like that makes me feel better......NOT! Tongue

The manufacturers didn't care about the sick/dead animals the first time around......like they care now? Shocked

Straybaby:  I agree with you......we already know melamine was NOT the culprit so saying that it's free of melamine doesn't matter diddly squat to me. Undecided

I checked a local big indie pet supply warehouse-style store (not PetSmart!) over the weekend and did not find any stickers on the Nutro packets they had.  But I did manage to stop a couple from buying a certain (name withheld since they are probably monitoring this thread) cat food that had had recalls by telling them about my experience with it.  (The store should thank me--the couple ended up choosing a more expensive brand after talking to me.)

i don't want to register over there, but maybe you can invite her over here. there are several home cooking recipes for kidneys available from the main books on natural pet care. also, i had a rescue that needed a prescription diet. the vet gave me a prescription so i would be able to give it to the adopter so they could get the food ordered. meaning the pet owner could go to a local mom and pop store etc and not have to rely on a vet etc. and i think in the past i have also gotten prescriptions for prescription cat food. ah, yes! i got one from my current vet a few years ago! she's not keen on the stuff, but if i couldn't get the natural diet she preferred, she wanted to make sure i could get the ***** diet (which she considered safe for the condition, but far from optimal). the poster shouldn't be restricted as to where she gets the food.

Reading through the thread confirms that she/he has been invited over here, so far without any acknowledgement. As well,she/he has been given many excellent sources for information and support.

My sense is that we'll have to allow the emotional rollercoaster process to run its course...as I previously said, 'remember where "we" were last March'?
