If this re-labeling of recalled food is true about Nutro, then what they'e done (whoever is responsible - PetSmart or Nutro or Menu or "all of the above") is CRIMINAL.

Unbelievable!!!!! I guess I should not be surprised with everything Nutro has done in the past, but this is horrible if it is true. I didn't read all the posts on the other forum--has anyone else come forward with the same problem with food from a different store?

Andycat,
Welcome to Itchmo forums, and thanks for the heads up on this. Maybe those who live there in MA will contact the store manager and ask LOTS of questions.
The idea that a pet food company retested food and deemed it safe is absurd.
What's wrong with that store manager?
The bottom line is: Don't take chances with food from any company that has ever had food problems - recalled or otherwise.

A note for anyone new trying to register here at itchmoforum - the new server has problems with some email domains and the confirmation email seems not to make it. So if anyone is having problems, try using a yahoo or g-mail account to register. We welcome all new-comers so please try again to register!

I'm editing this to add a note of caution here: At this point, all we have is one report - posted by a brand new member on a "foreign" forum. Any bashing at this point is totally inappropriate and irrational. What would be responsible is some cool-headed investigation which might reveal factual information to negate/confirm said unsubstantiated report.
My post was intended only as "a word to the wise"..........STAY COOL, PLEASE!
Please note ANDYcat's edit. Thank you.

Well, a lot of us read that thread, so we can attest that it was there. I still think I'll do a little browsing in Petsmart and look for stickers over barcodes. That would not necessarily mean that they were re-labelling recalled food, but I'd still consider it a possibility, either accidentally or purposefully, based on what has gone on over the past few years. Maybe the pets.ca post was a hit-and-run, but keeping our eyes open is always a good thing where food is concerned. Not that I'd ever feed that brand again anyway. ANDYcat, would it be worthwhile for you to ask the mods on that forum why the thread was removed?
A question about recalls--maybe somone like menusux knows the answer--How could most of the pet food recalls ever be considered complete? A lot of the food will never be sent back because it was eaten.

I prefer to post a link rather than copy from another forum. But due to the "glitch" at Pets.ca, here are the original posters comments from another forum (not from Pets.ca):
"Re: PETM still selling recalled food 24-Dec-07 02:11 pm All relabeled/recalled food products were from several different pouch (flavors) from NUTRO / NUTRO GOURMET... My vet has called the manufacturer to inquire whether any recalled items have been deemed suitable for relabeling/selling. Answer: No!
ahaigh9999" "PETM still selling recalled food 23-Dec-07 08:08 pm Why is Petsmart still selling recalled food? Several of my cats have recently become ill. After revisiting the pet food recall site, I found the food I have been giving them for several weeks has been relabeled w/new barcoding over the original barcoding. 100% of the food is from the recall list. One cat will be hospitalized for several days. She has been diagnosed with kidney disease - stage 3 of 4. She is young and WAS healthy prior to eating this food.
ahaigh9999"
------------------------------------------------------------------------ Edit - The above quotes are not from Pets.ca so the wording may be different from what you saw at Pets.ca.

If this is so, this would indeed qualify as criminal negligence. If anyone can prove it with a re-labeled product. 3cats

MarySmith,
You're welcome. If it "glitches" again, believe we may also have a transcript.
As this report is still unconfirmed, we need watch for new developments. Happily, we have lots of experience with a variety of information, and can differentiate (and appreciate) a "heads up" report from "confirmed" and well cited information. 5CatMom =^..^=
