Welcome to itchmo Gypsystormshadow.

I understand the anger that comes from having a pet sickened by store bought food. Guess those at that other forum have not experienced that type of anger so they can't understand those that do.

Hope that you find this forum informational and supportive too.

Thanks for the warm and wonderful welcome everyone!  Smiley Thanks also for the condolences regarding Stitch.  He didn't cross the rainbow bridge due to Orijens, he was my karmic cat who was tragically run over by a car last year.  I think I will remove the RIP as I don't want to confuse people....

I have 4 cats and 4 kittens who were fed Orijens as so far they are all OK....but it is a waiting game and I'm paranoid beyond belief as many other pet parent are who fed this toxic chemical waste to their cats.....4 of my kittens were concieved whilst the queen was eating the poison and were feeding milk from her after their birth for 3 weeks.......all cats and kittends stopped eating it on the 27 November, so it's nearly 1 month now......paws and claws crossed!

Just incase our threads disappear on CW, my workplace has kindly dontated (well they kinda don't know *G*) a ream of paper and I have printed both entire threads.....sorry trees, but computers can't always be trusted with things of this nature.....

We are covering all bases, believe me......but have to be very careful of what is said.....you never know who is watching....

Anyway.....sorry to love you all and leave, but I have finished up here at work until the 5 Jan 09 and have limited access to the net....will see you all then....so HAVE A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS AND MAY ALL THE EVIL SPIRITS OF THE WORLD LOSS THEIR WAY TO YOUR DOORSTEPS....

PS...I'm in contact via mobile with a few from the CW gang so will kept up to date with all that is going on....

Hello Raggierule:

Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this most unfortunate occurrence in Australia. At Champion we are pet owners and lovers also. I can only imagine how difficult it is for multiple pet owners like yourself to have to watch all but one go through this affliction. Our hearts go out to you and your loved ones wishing them a full and speedy recovery.

No Clark, you and people in your company can not imagine what my family and other affected families are going through and you clearly have not even tried to imagine it or you would be doing a better job of answering questions at the very least.

We have been going through this hell for months and I see no signs of things getting better anytime soon as whilst some of my cats are starting to recovery it will clearly be a very long drawn out process and we live with never knowing if they will get better and even if they do how long that will last before they have more problems or we lose them to the long term effects of your foods and the toxic effects it had on their system.

You have no idea what it is like to go from having big beautiful cats that share our lives and fill them with joy to having skinny little waifs that can not even eat of drink without assistance. To have cats that take pride in themselves and are immaculately clean who no longer have control over their toileting. You have no idea of the isolation we have been through as we cut ourselves off from all our friends because we didn't initially know what was wrong with our cats and didn't want to risk the possibility of being a vector of some horrid disease as unsurprising all our friends have cats too.

You also have no idea of watching your hard work, effort, and hopes over 8 yrs being thrown in the gutter and repeatedly run over as these cats are not only our family members but were (and I stress were) also our show and breeding cats. You have no idea of what it is like to ring a breeder that has entrusted you with an exceptional entire show and breeding cat and tell them that their cat is now paralysed too. You have no clue about the lack of sleep, endless work and heartbreak people are going through trying to keep their cats alive whilst they pray for a turn around that may not come. The need no matter how tired or sick you are feeling to keep going, to keep medicating, to keep up the physio, to keep feeding, and cleaning as that is the only way your cats have a chance of surviving this.

And you also have no clue of the impact this has had on my disabled husband who has had to watch his constant companions and minders fall to the horrid syndrome that has followed the feeding of Orijen food to our cats.

And whilst I will ask for the information from your company on your compassion/empathy fund I can assure you that $2000AUD/cat will in no way even cover vet costs for our cats let alone all the other associated costs (pee pads/suppliments that have been sourced from places other than the vets/mileage - the only vet who could offer treatment is a 112km round trip from home and I can assure you we have had many many visits over the many months this has been ongoing and we are no where near the end yet/ etc/etc/etc.....) of caring for the five cats currently affected by being fed Orijen. On top of that we have lost expensive breeding/show cats that have cost considerable amounts to purchase/test/title etc and we have also lost the kittens they should have had.

So unfortunately we see very little compassion being shown to victims of this disaster by your company. No answers and totally inadequate compensation. We will be very interested to see what you expect victims to sign prior to you being prepared to even offer us the inadequate amount your website mentions.

Jo,

I can only say I am so sorry. I hope your kitties will fully recover, although no one knows what effects this will have in the long run, and whether any future kittens will be affected.

Gypsystormshadow,
hope your kitties will remain well.

Wish everyone happy holidays.

Jo,

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I wish there was something I could say to make it all better, but I know I can't.

Welcome to all our Aussie friends....our hearts and our ears and eyes are with you!  Alot of us here do know what you are going through having lost our beloved cats and dogs in the recall in 2007 (and still losing them)...so we are a good place for you...no one can know the feeling of watching a previously happy and healthy cat or dog who has worked their hearts into the family that loves them....to see them become so seriously ill or pass just because of what they ate...and then to feel like no one is listening to the cries of help...and not just financial help!  I hope this a place where you can find some peace in knowing that many here though not affected  will help you all though this nightmare...great people ... great research and forever support here..

Hi Clark,

After reading that your testing revealed BHA/BHT in Orijen, I've got to ask:

Do you have legally binding contracts with your ingredient suppliers that specifiy that the ingredient must contain (fill in the blank), and must not contain any other additive, supplement, ingredient, adulterant, toxin, etc.?

Also, does your contract require that the supplier (not the supplier's supplier) test the ingredient for purity?

Or some words to that effect.

Many thanks, and Merry Christmas.

3.   It is our understanding that all food as been removed from all retail shelves and is also no longer available on-line. If this is not correct please let us know where it is still available and I will personally contact the store.

Clark I initially did not get passed your first comment and after responding to it could not bring myself to read the rest of your post. I have just come back to do that to find my eyes immediately drawn to Pt 3 above.

" It is our understanding ......." Do you mean to tell us that your company has not had some one ring every store your food was sold to and made sure it was removed, made sure all unsold bags were returned to the distributor, made sure retailers had notices up to warn clients about the recall and the need to stop feeding your food???

I am afraid I have no intention of spending more of my time trying to ensure your product has been removed from retail shelves - is that not your company's responsibility? I have already done this once and can assure you that I have no intentions of doing so again. When I did that search I managed to find retailers still selling your product despite not having access to a distribution list that is surely available to your company.

Clark has the ingredient containing BHA/BHT been removed from the Orijen pet food? Or will it be? And what will replace these two chemical preservatives? Now that I know thanks to your input I must return the food to the store as my current dog only escaped the pet food recall, affecting many still to this day, because of being on organic and home cooking.

Glad your testing the ingredients but until the chemical preservatives and whatever other chemicals in the food are removed I can no feel at ease feeding this to my current dog. Not having this dog on my conscience that the food she loves just might give her cancer IMO. Last dog's tally was over $12,000.00. I feel for all those out there who are facing mountains of bills due to food problems in one way or another IMO.

This is the last dry food I will trust. Such a shame this had to happen.
