Offy,
I wasn't aware you had such a sick kitty. I hate to hear that.

Yup, Geneva, the one who likes Innova EVO. And, we just got the really gritty bag.. sigh.  She liked it, but sneezed. I didn't think it was the pet food. I stopped giving it to her because of all the grit. She stopped sneezing.  When I gave it back she started sneezing again. Ancedotal, perhaps.  I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea in finding acceptable foods for her  (and acceptable in her kitty cat mind).

Offy,
I can even more so see why you would be so angry, since you yourself have had problems with Innova. I'm so sorry for that. It's such a rough thing to have to deal with. I think a sick pet is one of the hardest things in the world to go through. They are just so innocent and undeserving of illnesses and ailments. I'll certainly keep Geneva in my prayers.

Thanks, Eric. I even sat down today and wiped grit off the EVO because I knew she would eat it.

The picture is her in the dryer being warmed. The one on the stool with her Lambie is her watching me hunt for safe food LOL..  She "crashes" about every 17 days now and a crash lasts 34-36 hours. It requires assisted feeding, electrolytes, and getting her warm as her temp drops to 98-99. She was 6.7lbs on Jan 17th when she got sick. She turned 1 on March 6th and weighed 6.3, I got her back to 6.7 in May, but taller and larger.   She went 24 days without a crash and I almost lost her and she is losing weight again. My cat Miss Kitty adopted her as her own kid. She gets so upset when Geneva is ill that she compulsively washes and pulls her own hair out, so the vet gave me a tranquilzer for her. I think I need to take one LOL.

So, yeah, the apparent Innova production problem and the uncertainties about Innova scare me. But, what is worse, wiping the food off and praying it is safe or her not eating? I can't trust them, so I only gave her a few pieces and went and got some Meow Mix Market Select.. she did eat some of it.

p.s. I don't think the pet food companies think about the aftermath of the food recall and what some of us are going through. If they did, there would be prompt action IMO to take care of issues.

Offy,
That's absolutely heartbreaking, especially considering that she's so young. She's a very beautiful cat, and I wish I could just make her all better for you. I have such a weakness for cats, I just can't stand the thought of one suffering.

As you said, the pet food companies have absolutely no care for the longterm hell so many, such as yourself, are going through. I wish we could make them go through for just one day, what many have been experiencing for months now.

EricV, Offy and fellow bloggers,

More than anything I want us to stay focused here.  I am the “private individual” referred to by the pet food company president, the customer service reps, the field sales reps and now store managers and bloggers everywhere.

EricV, I’m glad you removed the content of the store manager’s message because it only makes me angry to see yet one more attempt from the PF company to discredit what is a legitimate concern from a consumer.  You see, I am no different from any other person who enters Travis’ store to purchase product.  I just got the lucky pick on two bags of Innova one day in a store similar to his and those bags just happened to contain unusual chunks embedded in the kibble.  Lucky me.

Regarding the “condemning the highly reputable company” comment, just looking at the many posts here and the absolute refusal of a company to respond sends a clear message and it is not one of “high reputation”.  How long does it take to develop a response?  They have had our sample since May 24, nearly 2 months.

Have you ever stopped to think why their response time is so long?

Have you ever wondered where the questionable product in stores will go while they continue to delay?

Have you ever questioned why your pet has unusual symptoms that cannot be explained?

Have you ever stopped to think that pets are still sick on non-recalled food?

Have you ever considered how many tears have been shed from pet owners who only want to love and care for their pets, yet feel responsible for making them sick?

Have you ever asked why?  Why?

I am thankful that some have come forward and shared their findings and concerns.  However, I think some people have seen how this company has attempted to discredit me, how their attorney attempted to intimidate me and how they have diverted the attention away from the issue with the pet food and made it an issue about a person.  As a result, I believe some people are reluctant to come forward.

People do not stop to think that this “private individual” is a real person.  I have two dogs that I love very much and I just want to provide for and protect them.

I have had the opportunity to speak with others.  I frequently receive emails where they share their similar stories and concerns in confidence.  I talk with people on the phone and listen to them share, through tears, of their frustration in dealing with a sick pet and not knowing how to help.  I hear them share how they feel responsible.

You may have “dodged the bullet” for now, but rest assured the issues with pet food are not over.  If your pet is not sick and has no problems with their food, consider yourself lucky.  But, my guess is it is just a matter of time.  The pet food issue is a ticking timebomb and, personally, I don’t think anyone will ever provide the truth to us. It is up to us to find out why.  It's just a matter of putting all the pieces together!

One week after sending in my samples of Innova Adult dry dog food, I received my test results from Expertox and from Natura.

Both Expertox and Natura received my samples last Friday.  I received an email from Expertox yesterday and called them today to discuss it.  According to Expertox, no toxins were detected in my sample.  The guy I spoke with could not say what exactly the black and white chunks were, but the assumption is that they are some type of synthetic material.

I called Natura to get an update on when they would have results, as they originally said it would take 3 weeks.  The person I spoke with had my results and wasn't sure why I hadn't received them yet.  She read off some of the information and said they would email it to me as well.  According to Natura, the black chunks are "part of the natural vitamin premix," and they have since reduced the particle size specification "to eliminate this issue."  They say that the white chunks are bone and are "within specification and typical for this product," or they could be brown rice.

I did not send the pieces of kibble with blue rubber and what looked to me like fishing line to Natura, but I sent photos.  They think the fishing line type material is "connective tissue from the fresh turkey or chicken" and that the rubber "may have inadvertently come from ... the wrapping that the meat comes in."

While everything Natura said sounds plausible, I'm pretty sure the white chunks weren't brown rice, and I don't think it was connective tissue sticking out of my kibble.

I feel fortunate (and extremely relieved) that no toxins were found in my kibble, but it doesn't change the fact that toxins were found in Donna's.  I only hope that we can get to the bottom of this before any more pets are harmed.

Debsue

I remember reading somewhere on the forum that the dried white stuff is most probably vitamin E that has crystallized. Don't know if Natura uses Vitamin E as a preservative or not. That could be the white chunks.

Does that make it OK that it is the wrapping?? You probably figured that out already didn't you. Like all this plastic that keeps getting found in canned food, gee ya think it might just be the plastic wrap that the meat came in, duhhh.

That doesn't make it OK to be in the food, no matter where it comes from, DUHHHHH

If bits of plastic showed up in human food, there would be hell to pay.

1gone Isn't good enough for my pets.

This thread is 48 pages long at time of writing, and I don't think there are a whole lot of extraneous posts.

You know, if they're having a production quality issue due to increased demand, all they would need to do is come clean and fix it. This would go a long way towards restoring confidence.

That would explain the garbage in the kibble. Still wouldn't explain the toxins in the tests - but I'm more and more convinced that problem is much bigger than one company. They're not doing themselves any favours by the way they're handling this.  Angry
