Jenny I was not jabbing AT YOU I was just pointing out to some who may not have read your post WHY I expected a change on their site this week...We are on the same page.....I remain very disappointed in this company. I bet I bought Peter Atkins a car in all the years I fed this food and what do we get but kicked in the arse

Yep - only reporting what they told me.  So, we will see if they update their web page, or whatever she meant by saying there would be an update this week.

SandyBeach so true that a lot of us have made up our minds or are about to. My last dog was over $10,000.00 in vet bills so can't do that with my current one needless to say. Now like the rest am truly disappointed in Karma for being one that has made my dog eat so much grass to throw-up that food since it has something in it that did not agree w/her. I really liked that food since they gave a 100% guarantee. Now question that too. Oh well on to better and safer food for all our lil kids.

SMACKS self in shock over the cost ..OMG I would do the same spend it all and then some to help any of my babies and these idiot petfood companies do not clue in that a loyal customer  is better than a vexed one.

Where's Natura?

Update 8/01/07:  Go to this topic link to be able to see the pictures without logging in, and to see the updated recap:

http://www.itchmoforums.com/news-recall-related/recap-gathered-information-on-innova-pictures-posts-tests-t1455.0.html

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Questions for the folks who had strings and other umm, nasties, in their kibble and have pictures:

What is the exact variety of product? (Innova, EVO, California Natural, HealthWise, MotherNature, Karma - and under each which one - there are several offerings)

Do you have the product codes?

Does the ingredient list have "meal" in it?

I guess I'm wondering if it's the same product/line and same lots/batches or rendered ingredients.

We had Innova Adult Dry Dog (green bag) - 33# - EXP 04 11 08

Confirm - it does have "chicken meal" in it.

Mine is Innova Adult (green bag), 6.6 lb, EXP MAR 19 08 2240, and "chicken meal" is the 3rd ingredient.

the food in my prior post is cal nat lamb and rice meal and is currently in a sealed plastic container.

The food my dog was on ~Karma Organic
1/4/08    in 4.4# bag
As for meal, none listed here
http://www.karmaorganicpet.com/products/default.asp?id=1503

This bag had no strings/fishingline/whatever threaded thru the kibble, no colored plastic looking pieces.  It had no odor, or not to my own examination and I have exceptional sense of smell.  It must've had some odor to Jake, because he wouldn't even take a kibble from the bowl and he was hungry.  Dove right into his older supply of California Natural when that was put down.  This was a just opened bag of Karma.  It had black or dark particles and white or cream particles in it.  Had not noticed that in previous bags but not to say it was not there.  I posted photos on this thread and can repost if needed.

It has been sent off for testing and to Natura.  I don't have any of the remaining product here.  Returned it to the store, getting full refund.

Went to Pet Supplies Plus yesterday for Wellness cans for my five cats.  There was a sign on the Natura display from the president saying they have had their products tested at an independent lab and there is NO MELAMINE in their products.  Didn't address any other possible contamination.

BTW, none of the five would even look at the Wellness beef and chicken  yesterday so will try another kind today.  The only thing they will eat is Wellness Indoor Health dry and California Natural Rice and Chicken dry.  Switching them to wet is not going very well.  (They won't even consider home cooked chicken!)

Offy,

Are you saying that the meals are rendered like, well, somehow I have the picture of that cow's head still in my mind.

Also, is this a connection to the "wool and hair" checkpoint in the ingredients section on the quality control list that you posted earlier?

I thought I couldn't get any more sick than I have already been.  Somehow I didn't put the meals together with the "R" word.

I could be wrong, but I think the "% wool and hair" in the quality control list has to do with the use of lamb as an ingredient.  There's a section on the Natura website that explains the various ingredients, and here's what it says about lamb meal:

"Lamb meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from lamb tissues, exclusive of any added blood, hair, hoof, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents except in such amounts as may occur unavoidably in good processing practices." (emphasis mine)

So apparently, even with good processing practices, there could (will?) be some amount of wool/hair in the product.  Doesn't sound appetizing to me.

Regarding our pets:
-- Watch & listen to your pets!  If they refuse a food, there is a reason.
-- Make note of any recurring symptoms (vomiting, eating grass, lethargy, increased water intake, increased urination, incontinence, weight gain, etc.).  These are not the symptoms sometimes associated with transitioning to a new food.  It is something that hangs around longer than a few days or weeks.
--  Keep a detailed calendar of symptoms, exactly what happens, when and what was fed.
--  Carefully look at the food as you prepare each meal; also give it a sniff (does it smell ok).

Donna, thank you for making these suggestions.  I have been keeping a journal of my cats' health and eating habits since my oldest was diagnosed with CRF.  The recalls taught me to also keep track of what they eat so I can link symptoms to foods if necessary.  It is a good practice to keep track of our pets' health whether they are sick or generally healthy.  It's a great tool to also have to look back at before vet visits.  It has helped me notice trends that I may not have picked up on otherwise.

1gone I guess we should thank our lucky stars for those PF manufacturers who have an integrated rendering facility on-site...

I wish Natura would address this problem. I have three cats and one of them has the most sensitive tummy and he knows it. Right now I have little bits of 3 foods down. California Natural, Kumpikat, and I just bought Wellness Complete Heath. My cat Cooper with the sensitive tummy loves the California natural and he eats it when the other cats dont. If he tries any other foods it really upsets his tummy and knows that and goes right back to the California Natural. Well I am almost out of that, I maybe have one more day, and i dont know what he is going to eat that wont upset his tummy. I wish they would address this and fix this. I  have a huge new bag a california, but i am so scared to feed it now. Hurry up Natura!! ( I also started feeding wellness canned and he is doing good with it, but they can be so picky, i leave little bits of dry food out)
