I don't know if you have seen this, I found this added to Don Earls' site this morning-

http://www.petfoodrecallfacts.com/lab.html

A woman had Innova dry tested and it was positive for cyanuric acid  and acetaminophen. It also discusses Innova's response (or lack of it) when she contacted them.

It's upsetting,  It thought Innova was a "safe" one and we switched to their dry food a couple months ago.

Another recall on the horizon? According to the Pet Food List, Natura manufacturers all their dry food in house and does not outsource any of its ingredients. But did they use rice protein that contained cyanuric acid to up the protein levels, as I believe Natural Balance did, and not list it on the ingredient panel? I would like to know how the acetaminophen got in there? Tainted meat?

What's going on Huh??

I thought Innova and Evo and California Natural were beyond all of this and that they were safe because Natura pet foods owns their own plant....
That blows the very small % of trust in at least one pet food producer....AND THEY PRODUCE THEIR OWN FOOD...HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN!!!
It will be interesting to see how professional they are about this !!!!! Or just more politically correct answers....
I believe once Cyanuric acid is present in the manufacturing process and equiptment used in making the food formulas, it is hard to get rid of it,,that trace amounts are left in the system...I'm not 100% sure though.....

Scary,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Wilbur It's not just in the manufacturing equipment. The carp is in the foodchain too.

This is very upsetting. I always thought Natura was a safer and more trustworthy company than some of these others. I feed California Natural and I'm frightened now.  Shocked

I started a thread on this in Problems with Pet Foods forum, didn't see this thread when I submitted it.  My cat started drinking a lot of water the day I started feeding Evo to him last week, bloodwork 3 days later was good, so hopefully just dry food vs. wet was reason for increased water intake.

We should all keep a close eye on this (& pets) if we're feeding these foods.  Maybe closely check the kibble for odd colors.  As usual, the only way we can tell is by who is affected, which is so absolutely NOT RIGHT!!!!!

This is very upsetting.  Natura was about the only company I had the slightest bit of trust in.  Now this.  I am feeding my cats California Natural and Innova Reduced Fat.  Two of my four cats have CRF, one of which was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago.  It is so hard to find something that is acceptable for their CRF and that I trust, now it looks like I have to start over.  Who's left that anyone trusts for high end food?

I want to cry. Cry

Cal nat was the one food I was feeling pretty confident about for my cats.  WHAT NOW?  It surely doesn't sound as if Natura is being honest and up front about this.  OKAY, what else is there that's safe, low phosphorus (for my arf cat) and something all five of my cats will eat?  This just makes me sick to my stomach!

I'm really upset to hear this about Innova, which my dog just began as of 4 days ago...    She had thrown up the sample bag back in April/May, figured I gave it to her too quickly, it was high pro and just didn't agree.. She has been on Canidae, but I wanted to get her grain free.. So thought okay, the Innova Evo is fine, lot's of people having good luck with it, I'll try it again, ease into it.. that was 4 days ago.  NOW THIS!!

I've already lost one kitty and and another is CRF.  (all unrecalled foods) - so no answers there...  The only surviving pet I have that is free from illness or not dead is my dog.. Now I have this to worry about.  Back to Canidae, she likes the wet, but not the dry...

I think it is important to read Donna's story on the Innova over on Don's website.  I just read it. http://www.petfoodrecallfacts.com/lab.html

Also keep in mind, the amino acid discovery in Canada back on June 5th that was tainted with cyanuric acid.  Still don't know what that is all about..

I'm in the same boat, with one CRF cat & 5 seemingly OK.  I've been feeding Felidae (thank God all mine like it), but need to get 2 back on grainless--diabetic cat that got better & off meds when I put him on grainless a year ago, and my crystal-forming cat that needs a no- grain to reduce pH.

Nature's Variety makes it's own dry & has grainless, Instinct, never liked that formula as much as Evo, has tapioca & pumpkin seed instead of potato & cats didn't like it as well.  But who knows if it isn't also problematic?

That amino acid problem makes me wonder.  Could putting in higher doses of amino acids be another way to boost protein levels, since proteins are made from amino acids?

petslave -

I'm feeding felidae also to my CRF cat, I just do not trust the big name RX diets.  Her last check up was the best so far.  I put a little baby food on it also to entice as she was a gravy lover and addicted to the kibble too and all those grains.  I figure to give her the best quality of life from here on out.  Wet only, no crunchy kibble though cause I sub-cue.

It's a day to day worry, but she gained a lb this last time and her creatin went down to 3, which is probably the best to hope for.  Doc said 2.5 would be the goal if we could make it.  He understands quite well why I do not want the RX diets and very understanding.  Bless her heart she was a real hunter too, so every now and then I give her some raw gizzard all minced up with a little bit of colidal silver on it (health store, but my sister makes it for me)..  I asked my vet about a phosphorus binder, but he said no.  Whatever you are doing is working for her, so just keep it up.    Well.. we will see, cause like I said it is a day to day thing and we started out with much higher levels..  It's all about quality of life now..

Your vet sounds great--wish they were all that way.  At least my vet tried to get me to buy RC instead of Hill's, but she was OK with what I decided in the end.

My CRF kitty is getting downright chubby on the Felidae, & she's always been a tiny little 7 lb thing, probably close to 9 lbs now!  It's not helping my 2 overweight cats either!

I'm only feeding one big can morning & night, which doesn't seem enough to me. When I tried that with Wellness canned last year, it was like they were starving all the time & they lost weight.  Must be the rice filling them out in these formulas.

Walked around all day at work after checking Itchmo and finding that post and link from Donna C Well today I returned the bag of Karma dry that I just bought last wed. as it is made by Natura that makes Innova and California Natural too. I'm so very thankful to Donna as my dog to was doing an excessive amount of grass eating to throw-up whatever was not agreeing with her. That was one of the symptoms for Donna's dog too. This I thought was safe above all the others but now cant take the chance of hurting my beloved baby. Only using the Evangers organic canned til I can develop a home cooked diet. I'm like the rest of you - totally blown out of the water about this, adrift with no where to turn as I did my research on the other foods and this was the best as far as not having ingredients that I would not eat nor feed my baby. Looking forward to the results when Donna receives her answer from Natura.

petslave said it 'there is no safe pet food anymore.' Have to make your own from human grade which can be a huge task but this time I will make big batches and freeze half of them so only have to do it maybe twice a month instead of every week. Anyone else have any problems with the Karma? Would like to hear about you too. Thanks.

Funny, my cat used to love Innova until a couple of months ago and then he suddenly refused to touch it.  I ended up switching to Eagle Pack kibble and tossing the Innova.  I have occasionally fed him the canned Innova (though it's made by Menu so I only used it once in a while, he didn't really like it much anyway).  Today, with this news, I decided enough is ENOUGH and cold-turkeyed him over to Feline's Pride (raw food diet, fortunately I was able to buy it locally) with baby food on top until he gets used to it.  So far, good.  I will NOT keep feeding him commercial PFI crap and being scared **itless that I am poisoning him every time he eats.  I would not be at all surprised if this turns out to be a vitamin contamination problem, which means all commercial food is suspect.
