Peanut Corporation of America Expands Nationwide Recall of Peanut Butter
Company Announces the Voluntary Recall of Peanut Paste Produced in Georgia Plant

Lynchburg, Va. (January 18, 2009) -- Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), is expanding the recall of peanut butter and voluntarily recalling peanut paste made at its Blakely, Georgia facility because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

None of the peanut butter being recalled is sold directly to consumers through retail stores by PCA.

The following is a list of all the products affected by the original recall and the amended recall:

PCA Stock #  Pack Size  Description Affected:

561000--35 lb--Pet Food Paste

So this means that this product is sold to PFC's and producers of pet treats which include peanut butter, if the PFC deals with Peanut Corporation of America.

Right now, we see no pet food or treat recalls--but we also don't know which PFC's may deal with PCA.

Good find menusux. Now everyone has to be careful about giving any pet treat with peanut paste/peanut butter etc. in it. There are quite a few brands of peanut butter flavored cookies for dogs out there. Do not think the people on here can afford much more testing of anything else for their pets as most are tapped out just from what has happened already from the plastic toxin testing.

Just don't let anyone you care about, friends, family, children eat peanut-anything right now.
I believe today's notices explain why this is spreading so fast, particularly the Wal-Mart
baked goods peanut cookies. Also now includes Pet Food paste and Feed Grade peanut butter []:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Lynchburg, Va. (January 18, 2009) -- Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), is expanding the recall of peanut butter and voluntarily recalling peanut paste made at its Blakely, Georgia facility because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled peanut butter and peanut paste were distributed to institutions, food service industries, and private label food companies in 24 states, the province of Saskatchewan in Canada, Korea and Haiti. The U.S. states are the following: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia. In addition, affected product was used as an ingredient in other products that may have been distributed in other states

The following is a list of all the products affected by the original recall and the amended recall:

561000
 35 lb
 Pet Food Paste

561000
 475 lb
 Feed Grade Peanut Butter

Sure looks like it, Sandi. Put in call to my vet and will
post results.

p.s., don't care under what thread this info is posted.
Just so the word gets out. Didn't notice menusux post
before posting.

"The company (PCA) has 85 direct accounts, some of which are distributors and some of which are food manufacturers, Sundlof said, adding that the FDA is exploring the distribution chain for the products."

I really don't want to start mentioning product names here because it might be taken as that particular PFC is doing business with PCA.  Right now we don't know which ones are.

My thought is that anything in the pet food/treat line that contains peanut butter is a possibility.  There are peanut butter dog biscuits, peanut butter filled rawhides and hooves, basted rawhides, and other peanut butter dog treats.

Wet Noses Organic Peanut Butter and Molasses dog cookies are safe. I contacted them Sat. The information is up on their web site today.

I received this reply right away:
--------------------------------------

Newman's Own Organics has contacted all of our manufacturers and
suppliers of our products that contain peanut butter ingredients. These
products are:

Peanut Butter Newman O's
Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Each of our peanut butter ingredient suppliers have verified in writing
confirming that they are not part of the FDA recall. Their protocol of
testing has confirmed no salmonella contamination.

Each of our manufacturers has also confirmed that they have maintained
their testing protocol and have found no salmonella contamination.

We are confident that you can continue to use these products.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our line.

Thank you,

Quality Assurance Team at Newman's Own Organics

Still waiting for a return call from my vet's office re what possible pet paste could be in.
Called again today. I believe they have me in the over-the-top category. Anyone else
called their vet's? I'm just wondering about categories, classes of products, and if any
meds are involved, especially for dogs, who seem to love peanut butter.

Thx for this notice jada. Hopefully this will continue with more places pulling product that contains any of this peanut paste off the shelves.
