I hope you get some news from the vet soon.  {{{hugs}}}

If it was me, I would have the vet check out your cat with the voice problem, too, even though she otherwise seems okay.   How old are your cats?

Are all the packets from the same lot of food, same expiration dates?  If so, if it was me, I would not give them all of it in case you want to have it independently tested yourself for things Ag might not test for.  Maybe someone here is familiar with NYS Ag.

If you need financial help right now to get  your cat checked out, there are various sources for credit, like care credit.  A lot of vets accept them and the application can be done at the vet over the phone or on-line.  It's pretty quick.

You can check their "find a doctor" to see if your vet is covered.

There are other ones, too, that I am not familiar with.

P.S.  What is your kitty at home eating now?  If she likes wet food, you can get Wellness canned at Petco now.  I've been using it for a year with 10 cats on a daily basis with no problems.  There is also Newman's Own wet in many grocery stores now.

Nam, I agree with JustMe, they dont need all the food you have especially if they are same lots/batch numbers....I think they would really only need one packet but I might be mistaken, its worth asking them if they really need it all before you hand it over.

Well all 3 packets have different expiration dates so...

I've never fed wet food before (except for prescription Hills when needed)-this was the first time and I dont think I ever will again!

Now I'm reading the Authority dry I've been feeding them may not be so good!  I have 5 cats so I need something affordable but I want safe! I thought Authority was both! Now I don't know what to feed them!  They always had great coats and teeth on Science Diet but I got scared with the recalls.

My cats are eating a prescription diet because they have to, but I also supplement a couple of them with Wellness wet and some kibble. When the medical issues are gone they are all going on Wellness!!!

Good luck finding just what you need. Lots of folks here have had a lot of experience finding food so I'm sure you'll get some good advice.

Glad you're here ~

Nam, Im wondering if you can find  more packets of your food at your store that have the same dates on them, that way you have some back-up just in case, although they might be different for some reason....but I guess thats worth a shot if you give it all to the Ag person.  I would think things will be OK with them taking it all but I have no experience with that, I am wondering why it could take 3 months for them to test it........anyhow lots here have had some good experience with Wellness and I think Natures Variety.  There are several threads about food that should give you some help on what to choose.  In the meantime, please keep us posted on any news about your kitty.  I hope she gets to feeling better asap!  Kiss

The main thing right now is getting your cat well.

I don't blame you for not wanting to feed wet now.   I don't feed dry anymore, but there are people here who do.  Maybe they can give you some ideas.  Unfortunately, the foods will probably cost a little more, but you normally don't have to feed as much food with the better quality foods, so it really doesn't end up costing you a lot more in the long run.

They gave me 4 bags of Authority dry for free when I adopted 4 cats from the Humane Society at Petsmart.  Neither the adopted cats or my other cats would eat it.  This was 6 years ago.  I would try to find something without corn or corn gluten or artificial flavors/colorings that meets your requirements.  Mine were occasionally spitting up yellow liquid and having intermittent diarrhea and/or bloody stools when they were on dry food with corn.

If you will send me (either by posting here or by PM/personal message) the exact names of the Nutro foods you have (what flavors, etc.) and the lot numbers and expiration dates from the back of the packages, I will try to buy packages from the same lots, so that there is a backup in case further testing is needed.  I can understand that you have your hands full right now, and may not have time to go looking in stores at this point.

Agree that the kitty who lost his voice should get checked over.  Are the others all OK?  Did they eat the food that appeared to have made the kitty sick?

I could be wrong but I think you are able to keep half of the food in the packets if you feel uncomfortable giving it all to them (I would)...I really don't think giving them all the food is wise but that is because of my experience (not with Nutro though)..
I think Don Earl told me that you are legally able to keep half the food---he told me that back when I thought the FDA was going to come take my food...
Don---are you here???

Well I gave the woman all 3 packages-I told her I was concerned but she said she was going right to Petsmart to buy more of the same lots and then straight to the lab so it should be ok.

I guess my little girl is more interested in the goings on at the vets but still isn't eating much at all but he said I can probably take her home later and I'll just force feed her if I have to.

Very good news about your kitty, its a good sign to see some curiosity in their surroundings.....perhaps once she is home and has a chance to calm down, her appetite might start to come back.  The Ag person sounded helpful so it sounds like it should work out alright.  So did she say if it will really take 3 months for the testing?  Hang in there Nam, maybe you will get your kitty back today and things will start turning the corner for the better.  Let us know when your kitty gets home.

I was thinking there is also clostridium and campylobacter that are bacterias found in food too.  I think its hard for us to know whether its food or not food-related but if her vet is concerned enough to want to help arrange for the food to be tested, Im all ears as to what they find out.  Another consideration is its always possible that bacteria in the urine is from a pre-existing condition and maybe made worse by the dehydration from not eating and drinking which is being caused by something different.  I know they always have some levels of certain bacteria in their stool which is considered normal, I dont know about urine.   I thought I remember, maybe Im wrong, but  many of the cases of the recalled food in 2007 had pets with fevers.  So a fever is not necessarily a direct-result of whats in the food but the damage the food has inflicted.

My only concern if we try to diagnose and assume its not food in advance, it does remind me of when DH and I felt something was wrong with KiKi's food in the fall of 2006.  We contacted 5 or more universities for help in getting the food tested and they all discouraged us.  While I hope her kitties illness isnt food-related, I think its important if someone feels strongly that it could be, to listen and help them down the road they want to try.  I know Nam needs to be aware in advance even if it is food-related, that the tests may not reveal anything as is what happened in our case (at least the test from the PFC showed nothing or at least thats what they said and then the food was officially recalled) but I want her to know she has a place to come to where we will listen and help as much as we can.   That said, I know we cant blame food for everything that happens to our pets but in this day and age, but sometimes one has a gut instinct that cant be ignored.

Don,
I think your comments in the previous post are very sensible and worthy of note.
