Walmart has recently contacted me regarding an email I sent them about my sick cats and the recall.  After giving all upc's and vet bill info she said she would get back to me after determining who the vendor is...She said the vendor is Special Kitty and Walmart just sells this...I am confused and wonder if anyone else has been told this or who knows the answer.  I thought it was WALMART's BRAND!!!  Am I wrong??? Of course she then said she had to determine who's responsibility it would be to pay my cats' vet bills..............and away we go     6 months later.......
Anybody with some info?Huh

Carol, I was under the impression Special Kitty is manufactured by Menu Foods for WalMart.  Sounds like you've had a run-in with another WalMart genius.

Mrs P ---she said Walmart sells it and MenuFoods manufactures it.  But that they weren't the vendor---the vendor was Special Kitty!  I'm willing to bet that she just doesn't know that Walmart's brand is Special Kitty!   Huh  I did not know that there was someone else between MF and Walmart! Undecided

We know Menu manufactures some if not all of the wet.  Vendor can mean:  supplier of goods or services of a commercial nature; may be a manufacturer, importer, or wholesale distributor.

I just found this in wiki answers.  This person list their reasons for thinking it's Doane Pet Care.

Alleged statement by Mars Pet Care calls itself the "vendor" for SK (this sounds like the dry food).  So, wouldn't menu be the "vendor" for the wet?  menu issed the wet recall.

For what it is worth, here is a discussion of "private label".

Yow! This is bad when you have to hire Pinkerton's to find out who makes WalMart pet food. Even WalMart doesn't know.... Huh

Menu Foods makes the canned and pouched cat food. (as shown in the recall)

I believe Doanne makes the Dry.

Special Kitty is a registered Walmart brand.

I should have told that lady (who I won't name yet)---that my 2 cats pictures are being featured at the RI Public Forum tonight about the pet food recall and I will be happy to say how my quest has been going and what kind of food and where I bought it and that it was still on the shelves 3 days after I call ed on March 17th and today's phone call.......My vet is the speaker and wanted my 2 cats pix as they were the only ones he knew of first hand poisoned by the pet food......(just in case anyone reading needs to know that!!!-not you loyal Itchmo guys)

I just called the phone number on the back of my frozen bad pouches and got MenuFoods who said they are not the vendor of Special Kitty, they are the manufacturer.  (which I already knew but the lady had asked me in the beginning of the call if I ever called the number on the back of pouch and I said no only MenuFoods like I was told by the news and it seemed that she did not know that the number on the back of her store brand cat food was indeed MF!!)  Good thing I like roller coasters as I've been on one since February 12th!

This whole thing would almost make me laugh if it didn't almost kill my two cats and drive me absolutely nuts!
I've come to the conclusion that nobody knows nothing anymore  Tongue(except here at Itchmo)

They may not all be dumb.  They may just be afraid of losing their jobs if they say the wrong thing, or don't toe the line with corporate policies.

But of course the smartest people are here...
