This was posted at Pet Connection.

FDA is announcing its intention to schedule and hold a public meeting early in 2008 to obtain input from stakeholder groups, including, but not limited to, the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), veterinary medical associations, animal health organizations, and pet food manufacturers for the development of ingredient, processing, and labeling standards to ensure the safety of pet food. These standards were mandated by the FDA Amendments Act of 2007 (FDAAA).

The date, time, and location for the 2008 public meeting will be announced in a subsequent notice that will be published in the Federal Register a later date.

A docket has been opened at FDA to receive any comments in advance of the public meeting. Submit written comments to the Division of Dockets Management (HFA-3051, Food and Drug Administration, 5630 Fishers Lane, rm. 1061, Rockville, MD 20852.

I want to add that I went to FDA' site and the docket number is not being recognized.....maybe its still too early? Although their statement says a docket HAS been opened....  Roll Eyes

I can't find it under that docket number either. Anyone??? This is your chance
to talk to the FDA about what happened to you and your furkids and the veterinary expenses
and treatment you have undergone. Please, find and post the link before the FDA
can close down the docket for public input!!! You know how little the FDA seems to
want to communicate with the victims of the pet food recalls ...

Don speaks to one of the things that makes me so crazy from the recall---I suspected my food was involved immediately due to two sick cats, but to the pet parents that were spared---many looked to see Menu Foods on the label----I know first hand as many people here in RI that I have come into contact with told me that---they recognized me from the news here!   If nothing else from this disaster, we have to have the manufacturer of the foods ON THE LABEL!!!   I am afraid to think of how many people continued to feed the food as the label said nothing about Menu Foods---mine just said distributed by Wal-Mart but the phone number was actually Menu Foods!!!! i agree Don. there is NO reason not to have the info on the label. when i was going through my cupboards tossing all the processed food, i noticed some products did have something along the lines of "manufactured for ***** by ***** and then the manufactures info. i won't buy anything unless i KNOW who made it and where. i'm living by the new rule that says everything is toxic unless there is total transparency on the label. if they don't have pride in stating where/who made it, fergetaboutit!

Don,

Im SO sorry you are going through this very sad anniversary. i had a kitty, Rock_er, who looked similar to Chuckles. I can't look at her picture without missing his great spirit. i can't imagine your grief today (and since and into the future). From your description, they sounded similar in spirit.

I'll be thinking of rock and chuckles (great name!) tonight when i lay my head down. hopefully they have met over the bridge and are making their mark in fun and frolic.

my rock dude at about 8mos before he became very long haired/furry. he even had a beauty mark on his  *cheek* Smiley  i'd have to fire up my old computer to post a pic of his long haired self Smiley

They come close on some of this but not close enough:

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode21/usc_sec_21_00000343----000-.html

"A food shall be deemed to be misbranded; If in package form unless it bears a label containing the name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor; and an accurate statement of the quantity of the contents in terms of weight, measure, or numerical count"

PS. Chuckles died from poisoned pet food one year ago today. Still no justice. Still no answers except for those we've found ourselves.

My thoughts are with you on this anniversary of your loss of sweet Chuckles.

Don, I am so sorry I did not see this post last night.  Your pain of losing Chuckles in such an evil way is certainly deepened when the date comes round and you are so right----no one who had fault in this have "answered" for it!  I had sent you an email many months ago through your first website about your loss of Chuckles and how Chuckles looked like my Jessica---while tears were streaming down my face----the same thing is happening now....This year will not be much better for many of us------with Jessica as an example of what may be happening to those that made it throught their initial poisoning.  With the stress of losing Jessica, the controversy over the food you had tested for all of us and the "anniversary" on the horizon for my 4 legged 9-11, I've been wanting to hide my head in the sand and just make it all go away.  I got a PM this am reminding me that everything we do makes a difference---I think reading your post here and feeling your sorrow is meant to revitalize this event to keep it in the public eye so that it does not go away.  Thank you for all you have done to keep this in the public eye---all may not agree with you but one thing I think we all agree with is it keeps our eyes and ears open!

Those anniversary dates are tough. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm sorry any of us have had to go through this. Thank you for all you are doing to make our pets safer.

JustMe,
Will you please explain to me what you mean by that? I'm confused.

Don -- my heart is with you on this anniversay and the ache in your heart every day. Many
of us have that heartache and it does not get easier. Thank you for trying so hard to make
a difference in a system so slanted and corrupt on behalf of all the Chuckles and the
special Chuckles that you miss so.

This industrialized diet has simply become so dangerous that it's unbelievable, JustMe.

Thanks, as always, Menusux, for the links. I hope a lot of you will comment to this highly
unresponsive agency just for the record.
