UPDATE 1-Menu Foods swings to loss on pet food recall woes

"It would not be an overstatement to say that 2007 was the most unsettling time in Menu's 37 year history," Chief Executive Paul Henderson said in a statement.

The company, which cut its staff by 27 percent last year, said recall costs total about C$55 million.

Menu Foods is the target of lawsuits in the United States and Canada, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation and a criminal probe by the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri.
Units of the company, which also produces private label pet foods for major grocery chains and pet stores, rose 2 Canadian cents to 70 Canadian cents on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Wednesday. That's well below the 52-week high of C$7.47 set last March

Maybe there won't be a 38th year in which to inflict any more pain...

Odd how things like this can happen to a company when thousands of beloved pets die and get sick and pet owners ignored and still suffering--hmmmm---odd..

I would say just desserts, but it really isn't. Angry  I hope this is just the beginning of their pain.

The best part is that they appear to be indicating that the FDA and criminal probe are alive & well... I hope the indictments come soon.

Here's hoping anyone guilty of insider trading and delaying announcement of the pet food
recall does get indicted.

lol Carol, thanks for that blood pressure spike this morning.  I read the link you posted at Menu's site.  How can I say eloquently?  It peeves the you know what out of me.  The first paragraph says it all.  This is it "It would not be an overstatement to say that 2007 was the most unsettling time in Menu’s 37 year history. In March 2007, Menu was the first of 10 pet food manufacturers to recall a portion of its production. The decision to recall was made following indications that some Menu-produced cuts and gravy product might have been adversely affecting the renal health of dogs and cats. Menu put the interests of the pets first, and on March 16, 2007 undertook the first of several recalls of its products. Menu reacted almost two weeks before any of the other 9 pet food manufacturers. Curiously, many people don’t even realize that several other pet food manufacturers had recalls of their own. Such was 2007 for Menu Foods."

Its just plain ol disgusting. Angry
