http://www.dogswell.com/?section=FAQ

"How do you ensure that all ingredients are safe?

"We test every batch of our product for melamine, bacteria, pesticides and other contaminants.  DOGSWELL® has always tested negative for bacteria and pesticides.  Along with knowing our supply chain very well, our regular tests that are conducted in APPMA and FDA-approved, U.S. facilities assure our customers that we are only providing your pets with the very best ingredients.

"How do you prevent salmonella from contaminating your products?

"The DOGSWELL® facility is specifically designed to prevent any cross contamination.  Salmonella is one of the easiest contaminants to prevent.  Salmonella is killed after 23 seconds at 160 degrees. DOGSWELL® cooks all of our poultry jerky products at 160 degrees for ten hours. While some manufacturers choose a quicker “flash cooking process” to irradiate their products, DOGSWELL® cooks all products much longer than the flash cooking process to ensure the safety of the treats."

"How does DOGSWELL® and CATSWELL® guarantee the safety of their treats?

"The DOGSWELL® facility is designed to prevent cross-contamination. It meets the highest and most strict sanitary conditions to ensure raw meat and raw juices or contaminants do not come into contact with cooked meat at any time during the cooking or packaging process, thus, eliminating the possibility of any type of salmonella infection."

"Is your product USDA inspected?

"We have USDA permits and we have permits in every state in the U.S. In addition to the permits, the department of the USDA called APHIS specifically monitors pet treats and conducts random inspections. Furthermore, we test every batch of our treats at an independent third-party, FDA-approved laboratory in the United States."

"What measures do you have in place to ensure that DOGSWELL® and CATSWELL® will not be affected by any recalls?

"Every batch of our product is tested for melamine, bacteria, pesticides and other contaminants. Our products do not contain melamine or rice protein concentrate and we have verified this through an independent, third-party, FDA-approved U.S. laboratory. Our material suppliers are certified clean and clear of any contaminants."

"What is BREATHIES®?

"BREATHIES® freshens your dog’s breath from the inside out and helps to maintain your dog’s healthy teeth. It is made with 100% chicken breast and is fortified with mint, parsley, rosemary, and chlorophyll. DOGSWELL® also offers BREATHIES® in Biscuits with Benefits™ and the MINIS size, great for small dogs, puppy breath, and as a training treat."

Yantai China Pet Foods Group/Wanpy

"Our factory has been approved by HACCP.
Our products have been approved by BRC.
We have passed the audit of SGS.
We have passed the audit of INTERTEK.
We are registered with FDA.
We are registered with the EU.
We have passed the governmental audit by AQIS.
Our laboratory has been approved by ISO/IEC17025.
We are a member of APPMA."

http://www.wanpy.com.cn/haccp.html

HACCP certificate that expired in August 2008.

http://www.wanpy.com.cn/jj.html

"Yantai China Pet Foods Group, founded in 1988, owns five subsidiaries of Yantai China Pet Foods Co, Ltd--Yantai CP International Trade Co. Ltd, Yantai Wanpy Pet Product Sales Co. Ltd., Yantai Aska Foods Co. Ltd., and Yantai China Pet Food Research Institute.  In addition, the project of Yantai China Pet Foods Industrial Park is in process.

"Yantai is a Sino-Foreign joint venture with a total investment of 15 million US dollars.

"As well, the company has passed the audits of Intertek, SGS (SQA) and WalMart (EC) sequentially."

http://www.wanpy.com.cn/js.html

"All suppliers, including the henneries and abbattoirs (slaughter houses) are registered with CIQ."

How does this fit in with the Dogswell pitch above about all chicken being cage free?  Are they marked in Chinese slaughter houses?

http://www.dogswell.com/?id=117

Dogswell now sells canned food.

http://www.wanpy.com.cn/canned.html

So does Yantai.

We have no evidence that Dogswell's canned food is made by Yantai--we don't know who the co packer for it is, nor do we know who their co packer for their new dry line of foods is:

http://www.dogswell.com/?id=123

http://www.wanpy.com.cn/beef.html

Yantai's catalog of treats and food for dogs--you can click the links to see them all.

http://www.wanpy.com.cn/cat.html

Yantai's catalog of treats and food for cats.  They also offer pouch meals for both.

http://www.wanpy.com.cn/packing5.html

This is JerkyTime--the Wanpy brand is also sold outside of China.

Now we know where Dogswell gets their treats from--and that they are NOT free from salmonella or the possibility of it--not as per the December FDA-OASIS refusal of them for that reason.

Thank you so very much for this menusux.
I for one, would be lost without you and your incredible research.

I just sent this information to a dog owning friend of mine and she is horrified as these are the treats she uses.  She also informed me that she is passing on the info to many who use the same for both cats and dogs.  What was so horrifying to her was when she said she was so worried about the dog getting salmonella and I reminded her about her 4 year old who loves to "give puppy treats".

Many are very grateful for this information menusux.   Kiss

This is Dogswell.  This is actually Marco Giannini, the Founder and CEO of the company.  Please allow me to dispell rumors.  First of all, we have NOT been found to contain salmonella in any of our products.  In fact, we have tested every single treat container we bring through our warehouse and we are free and clear of Salmonella.

Also, our dry food and our wet food are made in the United States with ingredients made in the United States.  If anyone would like to email me personally and discuss any of these topics with me and get further information, I am happy to talk.  My email is marco@dogswell.com.

Can you be more specific and respond to the FDA report?  Thanks in advance...I prefer to stay in the open forum here with my questions and answers.

If the products listed on the December OASIS Refusal list aren't yours, then please attempt to tell us whose they might be.  Listing your suppliers and co packers would be helpful to everyone here.

I agree. Please tell us whose product this is (with the SAME name) if it is not yours.
Strange that the same product name is being imported from China if you make all of your products here with US ingredients.

I would like to post for you our results on Breathies Chicken Breast from the same exact lot and will show you that our products were tested free of Salmonella.  I can forward those exact test results.  The fact that the FDA absolutely is not available to speak with or deal with is something that we are working on, but as you know the FDA has been wrong on more than one occasion with their process and procedures.  But I can tell you for a fact that we have product from the same exact lot of Breathies that was tested negative of Salmonella and we have not had any cases of Salmonella infection with any of our customers.

Unfortunately, I am new to Itchmo and I don't know how to post something.  Is there a way to post test results?  If anyone knows how I can speak with someone in charge of the OASIS site, I'm happy to call them.

Also, with our dry and wet foods, they are made in US facilities.  I am happy to tell anyone who would like to call me the name of the facilities that we use.  You can call me directly on my cell phone if you would like at 310.463.8256.

The question is whether those products listed as being refused by OASIS refusals in December 2008 are those of your company or not.

Are you going on record as saying they are not and you have nothing at all to do with the Yantai Pet Foods company?

We would prefer to have you answer those questions and to post the names of your suppliers and co packers of your products.
