Though our main focus is Labrador Retrievers and Lab mixes, we won't turn down a dog in need when space and funds allow. Don't be surprised to see the occasional Beagle, Shepherd, or Shar-pei on our site!

Are you an individual or family facing financial difficulties due to the current economic crisis? If so AAL may be able to help with assistance in the form of pet food banks, discounted veterinary services (including spay/neuter), temporary foster care, paying a pet deposit on rental housing or any other programs serving a similar need. Please contact us.

Note: Though the site's primary work is with Labs and Lab mixes, according to the HSUS list, they will also try to help those with other kinds of dogs and even with cats too!

The Safety Net/Pets for Life NYC Program offers low cost veterinary care, if you qualify, at participating vets throughout NYC. If your pet is coughing, sneezing, not eating, not urinating, not defecating, or not moving much, he/she might be sick. Vet care can often be very expensive. Our vets will treat your animals at a reduced cost. Please call us as soon as possible if your pet seems to need veterinary attention and to request approval to see one of our low cost vets.

How to get low cost veterinary services:

1) Call us at 917-468-2938 to request approval to see one of or low cost vets or to get information about low cost clinics in NYC. If approved, we will give you a participating veterinarian’s contact information and we will discuss the approximate minimum amount of money you will need to bring.

2) You MUST make an APPOINTMENT before seeing one of the Safety Net/Pets for Life NYC Program vets. When you call the veterinarian, you must say that the Safety Net/Pets for Life NYC Programreferred you and you would like to make an appointment.

3) If you already took your animal to another vet, you must get copies of the medical records, x-rays, etc. to the vet we refer you to, either by picking them up or having  them faxed from the original vet. X-rays must be picked up or emailed.

4) When you arrive for your appointment, you MUST tell the clinic that the Safety Net/Pets for Life NYC Program referred you. This is very important so that you are charged the reduced cost prices.
