I was reading an article last week about a cat that had 10 kittens.  I never heard of that before.  Dogs, yes, 13 puppies, but not cats.

You are just a bundle of good news today, aren't you, Just Me?  I had a talk with Sassy this morning and told her I thought 3 might be a nice little family. Still haven't talked with my neighbor about taking her in. At least I'm hoping he'll take her for a few days so I can scrub down the garage ~ also not in my game plan this summer, but Sassy wasn't either.

Wish I could bring her in because it's a pain to get in and out of the garage to do anything! She wants outside. Hope my neighbor will take her.

Anybody want to foster a pregnant mama cat?

Is she eating okay?  I mean, she has to eat for 11 now, including herself.   Cool

Good news that she is disease-free!  That will make it easier to find homes for her and all the kitties.  This is one lucky cat that found you to take care of her.  And lucky kittens, too!

I'm curious.  I have never had a cat with worms, so I am not familiar with the treatment.  Will it be possible to give Sassy whatever medications are necessary to get rid of them while she is pregnant?  We want to have a healthy mom and kits, and I don't know how the worms figure into the picture as far as the kittens are concerned.

At least some worm meds can be given to a pregnant kitty.  Phantom was preggers when we got her, and had worms too.  The vet gave her meds that were safe for use during pregnancy.

What is NOT safe for a pregnant cat is the common 3-in-1 upper respiratory virus ("distemper") vaccine.  The cerebellum of the developing kitten is damaged by this vaccine, and the kittens have a permanent staggering gait and lack of motor coordination.  I would imagine that all vets know this, however.  The danger would come when the cat is in early pregnancy and is not known to be pregnant.

With an "unknown" cat, my vet checks for a spay scar first, shaving the belly if necessary, before giving this vac.  If a spay scar is found, she will go ahead and give the vaccine.  If no spay scar is found, she waits long enough to ascertain that the cat is not pregnant.

Sassy didn't have that distemper 3 in 1 because of the pregnancy. The vet was very careful what he gave her and will base all medications on her condition. She has an ob/vet appointment in three weeks which should be getting close to her delivery date.

Thanks for reminding me of the dangers of meds for the babes.

CatMom5, Congratulations on the kittens. thanks for taking such good care of Her.
I said in an earlier post I thought She might be preg. just had that feeling.
Believe it or not, one of my bengals [i was up all night] had 9 kittens. i didn't think she'd ever stop. But that is unusual.
If you need any kittening advice, please let Me know.
We'll have to throw you a kitten shower.
I may have missed it, but how old does the vet think She is?
