Update:  Wilbur is eating again (Yipee!).

When I got home last night, he came running over to me and started rubbing against my leg. He then started pawing around the bowl, something he does before he eats.  He hovered over it, but would not eat.

I started petting him.  This is something that I do on occassion, but never related it to him eating.
Once I did that, he started gingerly eating some of the regular dry cat food.  I did this a couple more times last night and he would begin to eat, more each time.

We then placed a digital video camera in the kitchen about 10 feet from his bowl to see if he would eat overnight, and the video captured him eating again.

I am so happy that he is eating again.  He is also drinking water again too.
He seems more active too.  When we first brought him home he would either lay on his purrpad or in my office chair.
He now is climbing the kitty-condo to look out the front window to watch the rabbits, wild turkey and many of the birds that eat from the bird feeder. (which we call the cat's entertainment center).

Yes, yes, yes!  He is eating!  That is so wonderful to hear!  He is on the road to recovery.  Congratulations to you and your vet!

After the food had made him sick and nauseated, he may just have needed a little reassurance from you in order to get started.

That's good news, Kobalt! Eating and showing interest in watching wildlife out of the window are definite signs Wilber is getting better! Smiley

Oh, good news!  I'm so happy for you and Wilbur.  Maybe he just needed some time since the food made him feel sick.

It occured to me that if Wilbur likes his veggies, you could offer him a food that has a lot of them.  I know Nature's Variety Instinct & Homestyle Prairie is just packed full of veggies that you can see when you open a can.  You see whole peas and chunks of carrots.  He might like that.

Yay Wilbur!

Overnight one of my cats spit up a hairball.  I know it wasn't one of the black cats as it was beige-colored.  Anyway, no big deal, just a hairball.  What I did notice that it was "just" a hairball rope with a little brownish liquid.  However, stuck to the outside of the rope were bits of orange food, like bits of carrots or something.   Must be those veggies in their food.  Not digesting?    Sad

I've had that with hairballs, too, particularly since Jess started eating the wellness cans. He's the only one on wet   Embarrassed and he doesn't have many hairballs, but I have noticed a couple of orangish specks. I don't panic unless it's a lot of puke and foamy. My two long haired Maine Coon tuxies have a lot of hairballs, even though I brush them a lot. Guess it just goes wtih the territory.

Off to get some yogurt for fatty mama here to see if I can get the poops solidified a bit more. Back to cow pies today! If it's not one thing it's another!!!

Last week my black manx threw up a big hairball in the late afternoon.  Along with the enormous wad of hair was undigested rice from his morning meal.  I had given them a can of Wellness and a half can of home cooked, which has rice, and apparently everything got digested but the rice.  Guess that's the way of our carnivore kitties when we feed them non-meat items.

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would share my kitty vomit story.  I took in a 5 year old cat last summer.  I did not know much about his eating habits before, other than he did eat a lot of canned food.  I refuse to feed my cats canned food, because it smells, and looks disgusting, and because I think they gain weight on it, not to mention the poisoned cat food thing that happened last year.  I thought I would be a good owner and buy him what I thought was the best dry cat food - Purina One brand.  He's a mostly indoor cat, so I bought him the indoor advantage kind.  Well, he would throw up on a daily basis and most of the time the food would be in like a tube shape, and not look like it was digested at all.  Once in a while, it would be the foamy liquid looking vomit, and once in a while it would be a giant hairball.  I tried feeding him the Purina One hairball formula brand, and he was still vomiting.  So, about a month ago I decided to try Iams Healthy Naturals because it looked really good for him, with no additives or anything.  At first I wasn't sure if he would eat it or not, he picked a single piece of food up in his mouth, took it out of the dish and set it on the floor and then chewed it, like he was testing it to see if he would like it.  He did that a couple more times, and then he finally decided that it was ok and started eating it normally.  He has been eating that for about a month now, and he has only thrown up one time, and that was a day that I had moved into a new house and had taken him on a car ride, so I'm sure that is the only reason he threw up.  Iams Healthy Naturals has been so good and I am so happy to not to have to pick up cat vomit daily anymore!  I should also mention that I also have a 2 year old cat I have had since 8 weeks old.  I had started feeding her Purina One Kitten from the day I got her.  She never had any vomiting problems on the food, or on the Indoor Advantage or Hairball formula.  I did switch her to the Iams Healthy Naturals along with my other cat, and she made the adjustment just fine.

Welcome to Itchmo, mmlanzara!  It sounds like you care a lot what your kitties are eating.  Members here have had tons of experience with cats and dogs and we collectively hav had tons of experience choosing the best and safest foods through the 2007 recall and after.  Our collective experiences are "chronicled" in Cat/Dog Food experience by brand threads --- please take time to read through them - these have helped a ton of people and their cats and dogs.  If you are interested in pet nurition, read through the home-cooking threads too - many things you can pick up from there too!

Now, when are we going to see pics of your sweet babies?  Post them in the Den becuase we like to "see" one another's furbabies!
