this article is posted on http://newstandardnew.net Part of it says- USDA released an environmental assessment on the company Ventria Bioscience petition to field test genetically modified rice with modified human genes in the rice. They have alread tested the rice on children in Peru. Dr. William Greenough professor of medicine at John Hopkins University called the genetically engineered rice a "Holy Grail" in a press release put out by Ventria. "We'd like to have something that both hydrated people and could shorten the illness (of diarrhea)" he said "That is what every mother would want for their child."

Since a hydrated person has no need of fluids wtf is that statement about? Also did not know that diarrhea is an illness now. I always thought it was a result of something not an illness unto itself. This rice has HUMAN DNA in it. Franken rice anyone? They just won't leave anything alone in its natural state will they? I stopped eating rice and within the last 2 months have removed all dog food and treats that contain wheat, rice, corn, soy, canola oil, synthetic vit k from her diet. Glad I made the choice on the rice. YECH Human Genes, YECH. Do they think we now want to become cannibals eating parts of each other?

you can still eat organic rice from CA and a few other states where the rice will not be grown. wish i could remember what one state was tha Anhauser Busch (sp?!!) said if they grew Gm grains they would go elsewhere because they would not know if it had gotten into their crops. he said something along the lines of not being able to inform the consumer if it was there or not and consumers want to know/make a choice. I'll have to find the link. It ran a couple weeks a go.

Wrong link JJ:

http://newstandardnews.net/content/index.cfm/items/4757

They don't necessarily want to feed the rice, we'd have to stop eating a lot of things:

The company has introduced modified human genes into the rice in order to produce the milk proteins lactoferrin and lysozyme under the trade names Lactiva and Lysomin. Ventria, which has already tested the genetically engineered (GE) rice on children in Peru, wants to use the proteins produced by the rice to treat infants suffering from diarrhea. The company has also proposed to use the protein as supplements in yogurts, meal-replacement bars and beverages, granola bars and sports drinks for the general population.

"The company has introduced modified human genes into the rice"

Have we all lost our minds Angry

Who comes up with this stuff? Huh

Like is their a locked room somewhere and they have all these scientists where they write all kinds of crazy ideas on the wall and they then throw a dart at it? Huh

Human genes in rice to stop diarrhea, what will they think of next Huh

What comes to mind is a line from Jurassic Park. "just because they could they (the scientists) never thought if they should (create dinosaurs)". We all know well that went. Shocked

And what did they do in Peru, come up to some local officials and bribe them to test genetically modified rice on their children?

Just for the record:  diarrhea is a symptom, not a diagnosis.

As for me and mine, we will continue to use non-GMO grain products.  I've never been able to feel comfortable with grains that are genetically modified to think that it's part Roundup herbicide.  I sure don't like grains with some human's DNA...who's DNA is it anyway?  I don't want to know.

I hear you, straybaby!!!!

I am really, really appalled that a lot of our foods come from a chemical company.  Shouldn't foods come from a FOOD company???

I don't know of a single chemical-food product that hasn't come under fire, but still approved by the FDA, that makes me feel confident of its nutrition or safety.  Melamine, saccarhine (sp), nutrasweet, etc., etc., etc., etc.

When something is produced by Monsanto, CHEMnutra, Colgate-Polmolive, etc., it has to be suspect in my opinion. (keeping to the opinion or else link request from Itchmo).  I like things that are GROWN, not chemically produced in a lab.

Karvskitties I think you missed the point. They are putting us-our genes human ones into the rice. We are not cannibals and I do not want to be consuming someone else in my food, even a tiny amount of them. They have tested (fed) this rice to children in Peru. How much did they bribe the officials there to let them do this? That country is just as bad and as guilty to let this happen. Codybear is right-diarrhea is a symptom not an illness unto itself. They will feed this to others in the form of the rice which rice by itself is known to slow down or stop diarrhea anyway so what the bullpuckey do they need to put human genes in it for? They must have hit the same spot with their darts on that wall as dingbat said. For myself and my lil fur baby we will abstain from rice, corn, wheat, soy, canola oil forever.

While some I can handle, I do eat corn, wheat and rice.  Like I said - it doesn't look like they are planning to sell the rice as rice.  I did not miss the point - it is repulsive to me also, and really a bad idea.  But they are not going to use it as rice, they are using it as food additives, so you would need to boycott a lot more foods.

No it sounds more like they are going to use it as a medicine of some sort. Now we all know whats in all the vaccines or I should say still in most of them and that chemical is MERCURY. So genetically modify more and more til they kill everybody and everything.

This stuff COULD be in anything as a protein booster, here we go again.

They aren't serving it up as rice.  To read the article is to understand.  They want to put it in infant forumula (I believe) - and the other products mentioned.  The article states they are not doing the rice thing.

Eympire I'm not going to be concerned as to what rice they will use. Myself and my dog no longer eat rice either. No wheat, corn, soy, canola oil or rice is eaten. Go to dogtorJ.com  He is a vet and has done a lot of research with a wealth of information on wheat, soy, lectins in food that mess up your system, etc. He also was the first to mention that it would be genetically modified wheat that would be the culprit of this massive sickness and sometimes death our beloved pets are experiencing. Also they are genetically messing with tomatoes. Trying to put some kind of fish's DNA into it so they won't freeze in cold weather. YECH. They are not gonna stop til they genetically alter everything and then when the genie is out of the bottle no one will be able to put it back. Soylent Green anyone?
