Has anyone found an on-line pet food store that knows how to pack cans of food so they arrive undamaged? I am so sick and tired of dented cans, I could scream.

(You know I'm knocking wood loudly to say this) So far, I've had no problems with dented cans from WagginTails, OnlyNaturalPets and Pookie's BowWow Bakery, PetSmart. And, If I'm jinxing myself for saying that- may your next toothpaste tube have a hole in it where it shouldn't when you squeeze it

Mine were like 40-50 pounds boxes and they packed them with plastic air bags to hold the cases of food in place. Sheesh, that doesn't work. Thanks. I have found waggin tails to pack well. Wish they had the big cans of Wellness, but maybe I'll go with some of the smaller ones.

When I've had larger shipments they come in multiple boxes... maybe if you're happy with a certain vendor, specify that the box is no more than 25lbs or less with ample packing like lots of brown paper?

Oh yeah, that drives me nuts, too, since I buy ALL my foods on the internet. I'm getting a 50 pound delivery from PetSage in the next few days (hopefully, as I've been waiting a verrrry long time for this darn box, and now I'm fearing that it's sitting in some humid storage room somewhere at customs ). I'll keep my fingers crossed that none of the cans are dented.....

My PetSage is here! All the cans and freeze-dried were in one huge box. The cans were stacked in twos or threes in paper box trays (in which canned foods are often sold by the case), and there were big pieces of wadded packing paper on the sides of the box, and those styrofoam puffs in between, under and above each paper tray. I'd say it was very well packed. (This is an International delivery.) Of the 97 cans I ordered, "only" 6 of them have dents. I'd say this is not too bad. I imagine I shouldn't use the ones that are dented?

August, If the dents are small and don't involve the top of the can if it is a pop-top kind, and if there is no obvious swelling of the can, I think it is probably safe to use. A dent doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong inside the can unless the integrity of the seal has been disturbed or the dent has caused a break in the metal of the can. This usually doesn't happen unless the dents are pretty big and deep. Check them carefully and use them first. Listen when you open them to be sure you don't hear any hissing type of noises that might indicate a build-up of gases inside the can. I have used slightly dented cans without any problems. Of course, if you are really concerned, then follow your own instincts on this.

Thanks, Mandycat,
All the dents are on the side or bottom (they are all pop-top). I'll check them and use them first, unless the dent seems too big for comfort.

Lesliek,
I can't seem to get to the correct page on the link you posted (even after copy pasting the whole thing in). Can you check on it and tell me one more time, please?

You know I am a freak about dented cans. I very carefully look them over and will not buy a can with a dent. Then you get to the check out counter and the cashier throws the cans as hard as they can. One day I was so peeved I took the cans out of the bag and insisted on getting new ones.

That's such a helpful link with the photos of what kind of dents are safe.
Thanks for the great link.
It's hard not to be a freak about dented cans. I'm going to go check mine out now.
