You can see the theme building in my posts.   Roll Eyes   Smiley

I decided to get rid of my 1-yr-old ScoopFree.  I can't use it anymore plugged in (the noise now alarms Chamster), so they may as well have another new box that has more legroom, and one that is easier for me to take care of.

What do you do with your old litter boxes?  Throw them away?

I donate my old boxes to the local shelter. They can clean them with bleach water and reuse them.

I'll check and see what I can find.  That's good to know - I was concerned about the scent.  I have a bunch of toys (that weren't hits) to donate, too.  But those can't be cleaned with bleach?  Is that still all right do you think?

By the way, I would like to change litter boxes and litter for the box in my Mom's apartment, too, as well as change my automatic box to a regular box (like my new 2nd box).

Do you all suggest :

A)  Use the old litter box, and slowly add new litter until they're used to it, then introduce a new box

or

B)  Use a new litter box, but use the old litter, and then slowly add new litter

At my place, Chami is the only one using the new box and new litter (I think).  Mooch (and Yoyo & Lulu when they're here) are still using the old box with the old litter.  The boxes are next to each other.

All cats are different, but I have found them in general to be more fussy about the litter than about whatever is holding it.  A possible plan might be to ditch the old box,  put the new one in the same spot, and gradually change over from the present litter to the new one, by mixing a bit more in each time you change it.

Oh my goodness, I just saw Chami doing #2 back in the OLD box!   Shocked

I did change the silica today, so maybe that's the reason.

In other words I guess she'll use whichever she feels is cleanest.

Catbird, thanks.  I went ahead and ordered another new regular litter box and I wrote to a couple friends asking for shelters/rescues in Japan to where I might send the automatic litter boxes (when we're sure we're through with them).
