A little over a week ago I found a flyer in my mailbox from someone who had lost her cat.  I could really feel her frenzy in her flyer and decided to contact her and have been helping her search the neighborhood every night after my mom goes to sleep.

He's a 4 yr-old long-haired, completely white, friendly, hearing-impaired, small Maine Coon who is not neutered.  In the middle of the night he managed to open the glass window (that is usually locked but unfortunately wasn't that night) and open the screen window, then climb down the nearby tree.  The following day (last Saturday) he was spotted eating several blocks away from her house but hasn't been spotted since.  (She's been calling the animal shelters and her vet, and has been going around the neighborhood handing out flyers and talking to everyone.  She's scattered his litter here and there and put out his food here and there...)

Tonight we're taking her dog with us in hopes that his strong scent will be inviting for her kitty (who loves this dog).

Please send good vibes in hopes that we can find him.

I am sending good vibes for kitty..prayers that he is ok...I hope using the dog works. Maybe the dog can follow the cat's scent? Maybe someone has him...is there a reward?

Oh, I hope you can find this lost kitty.  Sending good vibes for you, your neighbor and neighbor's dog, and mostly for lost kitty to find her way back home.

Oh, I can only imagine how sad the kitty's people must be. Good vibes coming from here, too, that he will be found.

(Years ago, a friend of mine had a cat go missing in almost exactly the same way. It took 6 weeks and a live trap to get him back in. What I've heard is "look low, and closer to home than you think." This was definitely true of my friend's cat, who had holed up in an old groundhog burrow under her tool shed and was coming out at night to eat.)

Oh, I hope you were successful in catching this guy. (Neutering would likely help calm his wanderlust, too) It's awful when a pet goes missing. Bless you, August, for being part of the search party. She's doing all the right things. Keep us posted, as you learn information, please.

How heartbreaking.  I'm sending special Found Kitty thoughts his way.  Thank you so much for helping in the search, August!

Off to hug my kitty.  Cry

Keeping your neighbor and her kitty in my thoughts. I've had cats that have escaped the home too, so I know well the feeling of hopelessness she must be feeling.  Cry

Hoping that the kitty will be found safe very soon.

Sending lots of hugs

I'm sending thoughts & prayers he gets back home safely.  Tell her it's best to actually go to the shelters every few days and look at all the cats there rather than just call.  They are often overworked and the person on the phone may not actually know what cats are there, or the records are not up to date yet.

How sad for your neighbor.  Sending good vibes your way with hopes that the kitty can be found.  It sounds like a beautiful kitty, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone has taken him in.  If she finds him, I hope you can encourage her to have him neutered so that he doesn't have such a desire to wander.  He might have sensed a female kitty in the area.

Thank you for the support, encouragement, and good advice.  I've emailed her all the information telling her the experiences written here, and also about going to the shelter.  Tonight when we search again I'll talk to her about the idea of a reward.

She has another Maine Coon at home who is female ... and isn't fixed either.   Tongue

After things settle, I'll certainly encourage her to have them fixed.

I'm not used to being out late at night anymore, at least not when I have the 4:30am breakfast wake up call from Friday.  I'm exhausted.  But I want so badly to help her find her kitty.   Cry   Fingers crossed... more later...

SHE FOUND HIM!!!!!!!

I'm so elated and relieved and thrilled and SO HAPPY!!

We searched high and low at night together, and she went out during the daytime to post flyers everywhere and into mailboxes.  Finally after two and a half weeks, she got a call from a neighbor yesterday saying they thought there might be a white cat hiding under a bunch of cement blocks in their open basement.  Sure enough, it was him!

This basement was in the house directly across the street from her house (a few down from mine).  He had lost weight and his white long fur was tangled, full of garbage and not quite white anymore, but the initial check at the vet went very well.  He's now at home in quarantine from the other pets, relaxing and getting back to his self.  The minute he got inside his home he ate two cans of tuna and a ton of dry food.   Smiley

Now I can rest and start posting again!   Cheesy
