Cody, my outside girl, had a great check-up, is up to date with vaccinations and got a brand new collar and very pretty name tag. She had had one, but the new one was a break-away. Well, sometime last night, it broke away and I can't find it! Now she is collarless and I want to be sure she has some identification. I will have her microchipped, but there is another issue. I am having my garage remodeled and a room built for her so she will have a safe, warm space indoors without coming in the house (hey, it's only money, right?) At any rate, I found a wonderful door that opens with a battery on the cat's collar, but I can't guarantee that Cody will keep her collar on. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get a cat door that will let her in and out, but no one else, without a collar? Since she is a bit of a scrapper, there are no guarantees that she will keep one on.

If anyone has any experience or thoughts, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Maybe a stretch collar, rather than a break-away one?

PERFECT! I will be ordering a few tomorrow. Think I'll get enough for my indoor cats to have them in case of emergency. (If you want to help make another tag, let me know.) THANKS!!!

Catmom5,

There are doors that work with a microchip, too.

My mother used to make collars out of wide elastic, with phone # written on it and a few stitches to hold the ends together.  I've used that idea over the years as temporary replacements for lost collars.  Interesting cat door that works on the microchip - I haven't seen those.
