Just read on his facebook page - Jack the Cat didn't make it after all... The wounds on his back just wouldn't heal because his poor body was too weak to fight off the infection.

This is so heartbreaking, I really really hoped he would get better Cry

At least he wasn't alone anymore, poor little baby

I was so happy when they found him, and I'm so sorry to hear he didn't make it.  His poor people. Cry

Rest in peace, Jack.

I'm so heartbroken. I was following this story and was so happy his condition was improving. I'm so glad he was found, though and he was able to see his mom again. I really hope this story makes people more aware of what it means to really secure you pet's carriers when they're flying. I also hope it makes baggage handlers more careful and maybe airlines can put policies and procedures in place to keep this from happening ever again (like requiring zip ties on all carriers to hold them together in case something breaks).

ETA: One good thing that did come of this incident is that so many other cats that were found on the JFK grounds when they were looking for Jack, got a new forever home. That's Jack's legacy. You can see the pictures of Jerry and some of the others on the same site. I'm glad some good came of this sad journey.

There's a petition "Create Jack the Cat's Law" on change.org; if anybody wants to sign it, here's the link http://www.change.org/petitions/create-jack-the-cats-law

Signed and commented. I know the idea is flawed but even if one doesn't agree entirely with the methods, the petition alone should make everyone sit up and take notice and actually DO something. I can't stop crying about Jack. Seriously. I didn't know him but the situation was so sick that I find myself tearing up throughout the day, as though he were mine at some point.

If any of you want to donate to the expenses incurred by the people and rescues that saved the cats that were found while looking for Jack, they've set up a site where you can purchase items with one of Jack's pictures on it. Yes, that picture makes me cry every time I look at it, but I bought the shopping bag because it's the only way to actually get the message across that THIS could be your pet if there is no change in airline policy. Right now, I'm trying to find more information on George the cat that escaped his kennel at Edmonton International thanks to Air Canada's negligence. It's just going to keep happening if something isn't done. I'd say this movement has more legs than Occupy.

ETA: At first, I wasn't going to buy one, but then I thought, what if that was me that was lost and I had lost a lot of weight and needed medical attention. How would I feel if someone didn't want to look at me because I didn't look as good as I did before I got lost? Because I looked in bad shape and it made people uncomfortable and sad. I think that would make me sad because even though I had gone through so much, it's still me. That's why I still bought it and will tell his story when people ask.

I too have been really sad since I read the news this morning - and yes, his picture makes me cry out at such a shameful waste of life which so easily could have been avoided. It's too, too sad.
