Want to have a basic background on how the PFI is "regulated" by the FDA, CVM, AAFCO and themselves?  The incestuous relationship amongst these bodies will amaze you as well as help you understand why the PFI has been sooooo successful in confusing consumers!  It is long reading, but oh,so worth it.

Thank you! I've been looking for this, I found it linked from one of the blogs at the begining of the recall, read it but didn;t save it and couldn't find it afterwards.

Definitely worth reading.

Oye, Alek0!  Yes; it's good reading and very informative, isn't it?  Appeals to "academics" like us with all those footnotes (oh, how scholarly!;D).    Seriously, The paper re-inforces many of my own thoughts about commercial petfood, vets who push Hill's SD, the much touted and so mythical "balance diet" and the PFI in general.  To think, this paper was written in 2005 before the BIG MenuFoods recall.

Kaffe,
That is quite the insightful article!  I think I shall be printing it out and reading excerpts from it on the radio this week.  (I do give credit on the air; I didn't do this research.  I say things like "Kaffe from Itchmo's researched this.") Important that it's a before-recall article.

kaffe,

Wow, what a paper it is.  Thanks for posting it.  Justine Patrick blew me away.  She ties everything up in a tidy piece of work.  We need her here now.  Wonder if she is still a pet owner.  The footnote about her kitten.

I'm thinking we really do need a pet owners organization so we can get some clout.

Yes, JustMe - a national Pet Guardian's Association to watch the PFI, the CVM, the AAFCO, FDA and other pet product manufacturers.

kaffee after reading that if anyone on here does not believe there are better things to feed your beloved furry kids - then I do not know what will wake up these animal lovers. A long but well worth it read.
