I decided this might not belong in the humor section. I think this art is fabulous! It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think the Catamount People's Museum is really imaginative. It reminds me of art called 'visionary' and 'outsider', often made of found materials. You can find many photos of it around the Internet. Different views of this sculpture are worth seeing; some give better views of the paws:

In addition, every summer the town of Catskill puts up some basic cat form sculptures, and local artists decorate them. So they are different every year. At the end of summer the sculptures are auctioned off for charity. Lots of these are around the Internet, too, here's one article:

I wanted to post this because summer is almost over, and this might make a good weekend road trip for someone closer. I can't go, although I really wish I could - I'd go out of my mind, cats and art, OMG what could be more fun!?!

I'm an artist so I love things like this! i have seen decorated cow art but the cats are new to me. I really like the Starry Night cat! It looks like it's covered with bugle beads.

That is so cool!  Ned, can you make a hat that looks like that? Cheesy

Thanks for posting this, catwoods.  I'd love to see it!

These are amazing and beautiful! (Yeah, we have a lot of the decorated cows around here, but no cats.)

Love those cat scuptures!  We have had displays of Crab sculptures and Fish scuptures in past years.  They were placed around the city then auctioned off to raise money for charity.  There was even a whole book published with pictures of all of the fish sculptures.  They were quite creative!  The book is called "Fish Out Of Water".

Glad y'all enjoyed this! I would also like to see the cows, the crabs and fish sculptures! Ned, thanks for posting the picture here! That's another Internet thing I don't know how to do, lol! I like the Starry Night one and agree with Fizzy, you could totally make a hat based on that theme.

Side note: There is (or maybe was) actually a series of yarns based on Van Gogh's colors that Ned could use to make a hat! They are sock yarns from Opal. I have made scarves/shawlettes from 'Vincent's Room' and 'Night Cafe''. The 'Starry Night' one does exist. Opal does a lot of yarns based on the color pallets of different paintings.

Here is a link to our "Cow Parade" painted cows; the event occurred in 2006 and they were auctioned off to raise money for charity. There is one that was bought by a local businessman and donated to my nearby branch library, and there is also one in the waiting area of the medical clinic I use. It was pretty interesting to see them up and down the streets downtown before they were auctioned off! They are interesting public art.

I couldn't find a link to post to see the Fish - there were just a few sites that had one or two pictures.  I mostly saw links to buy the book Fish Out of Water, which has pictures of all of the fish.  I have the book.  Maybe that is why the pictures of the fish are not on-line - they wanted to sell books!   However, I did find this link that shows pictures of the Crabs that we had a few years later.  I think that exhibits like these are very interesting to see and the imaginations of the artists are amazing!
