I was at the pet store today and noticed many "safe" brands had raised their price by a few cents a can or bag.  With so many people switching to better brands, I wonder if companies will start taking advantage of this.  Anyone else notice price increases recently?

I would expect to see it happening more.

Supply & Demand... Econ 101.

I just wish that some of them would proactively raise prices & buy from locally grown/processed/produced sources. I would pay a premium for a company that would do this & can prove it.

i don't believe for a nanosecond that the cheap/poisoned ingredients were purchased to keep prices low for the consumer. hills was caught, and their kibble costs about $3.00 a pound, more than a lot of foods meant for human beings. profit profit profit profit profit. that's what it's about. the so-called "safe" companies know they can make more money now, so they're doing it. watch their earnings soar!

This is not only happening at the stores, I noticed it happening on the websites last week when I went to order food!  I could not believe the company had raised the price nearly $5.00 over and above the cost of the little pet store in my neighborhood.  Needless to say, I will be sticking to the pet store!

Pretty tacky, I think.  I can accept a few cents more, but $5.00?
I'd be looking elsewhere, too.

I noticed this immediately. On March 17 I was in a pet store buying canned cat food. Prices had increased about 20 cents per can. That doesn't seem like a big deal until you realize that's about a 30% increase.

They will keep going up too. Like was said above, supply and demand. I think I'll buy a three month supply come payday and hope nothing happens with the latest brand I've switched to. (Felidae and Canidae)

We've had our dog on canidae for the last two weeks, went up from $1.48 to 1.50 a can.  Hope it doesn't get up to $2 or we'll consider making our own.  Might stock up now also and hope this is over soon.

Yes - before the recall I was feeding Nutro Max, which has gone up from $20 to $25 for a 40# bag. Since the recall I have educated myself about foods and ingredients and am now feeding Canidae.  The Canidae is $35 for a 40# bag.  I do not know if this is an increase from the pre-recall price, but I feel like it is a good value.  I definitely have to feed less of it!
