Today would be your 10th birthday, my precious catboy. But I know that you won't grow older where you are now, so I just wanted to let you know how very much I miss you, even though you have a forever home in my heart.

I will never forget the first day I saw you at the shelter. You were so confused and frightened, cowering in the back of your cage, rolled up into the tightest fluffball you could manage. I'm glad that I took you out, shivering and scared because that was the beginning of a true love story. You were mine and I was yours from that very first moment.

When you came home (to be fostered - I told them you weren't coming back) you were so nervous and scared about being in yet someplace new and different. Dexie wasn't exactly welcoming either, was she? But it worked out and we had some wonderful years together. You loved the kittens. I will always remember what a good big brother you were to Angel's babies, Sampson and Jonas, then Sassy's boys. You and Rascal chasing up and down the hall, you and Cassie sharing the cat grass or scoping out the chipmunks in the backyard. I loved how you would snuggle on my lap and be so content just to be close. How I loved you.

When Dr O told me how serious your heart disease was and how rapidly it was progressing, I couldn't bear to think about losing you. And lose you I did . . . way too soon. I wanted another lifetime with you. But, in the end, I had to let you go. You fought a good fight, but your heart was too sick to be healed here.

So now I look for you every day and think about you every day and miss you every day. And I will forever love you and you will always be my most special catboy. I love you, Jess, and look forward to the day when we will be forever together. For now, watch over us and be free of pain and fear, run and climb, chase those furry toys, nap in fields of catnip in the rays of the sun and remember how very much I love you. And tell Dexie and the others that I love them and miss them, too. And . . . I'm sure there are kittens for you to take care of at the Bridge.

Always in my heart
