I am having trouble finding an outdoor safe hermit crab statue or green shell [large] to use as a marker for Shelly. If anyone sees one I would appreciate it if you let me know. I was thinking of something about 1 foot high, safe for outdoors & not obscenely expensive. If I can't find a statue,I had thought of a large green shell because he only would live in natural green shells. Anyway if you are near seashore gift shops & notice anything ,pleae get their email or phone for me. TYIA.

Leslie, I don't think these are as large as you want but here is one place that has green shells among the others for hermit crabs:

http://www.petdiscounters.com/c13/c21/Natural-Crab-Shells-Extra-Large-c182.html

I found it when I was looking for "hermit crab art" but only found instructions on drawing them.

In years past shops in Gulf Coast towns I visited had boxes of boxes of shells of all sizes. Will see if I can find any listed on Internet when more looking around time turns up.

They had the largest shells so far,but still not big enough. I've searched hc art,hc statues,hc figurines, outdoor statues, outdoor sculpture & every other combo of wording I could think of with no luck. I'm going to try shops at the shore next weekend. Maybe 1 of the stores will know of somewhere even if they don't have anything.

I've had a large conch shell outside for years and it still looks good.  Not green, but maybe you can paint one if you can find one?  I don't know if they even sell those anymore.

Just throwing out some ideas for you to ponder.

How about asking a ceramic shop to make a big shell or crab for you to use as your memorial stone?  Or maybe even have them make a memorial marker using a picture decal of Shelly? Of course, I have no idea what it would cost, but it would not hurt to ask them if it would be possible. Maybe you might even be able to find a local ceramic artist that would be willing to do something less expensive, but just as nice for you.

The ceramic shop is a great idea.  I was also thinking of a pottery, if
there is one nearby.  You could commission it and I bet it wouldn't be
all that expensive since a shell should be fairly easy to form.  Good luck.

leslie do not know if you have any stores in your area called Tuesday Morning. They do have a good selection of statuary with animals, etc. prices range. You might also want to stop in there before they put away all the summer items.
