Yesterday Mike and I decided it was time to open our pool---it was the first real warm day. Unfortunately it is a nice lime green color as our cover fell inside over the winter so today I went to buy gallons of stuff to try to clear it up. And that of course got me to thinking about last summer and how Lucy would spend hours on her boogie board and Harry would lie at the top of the deck with his toes in the water and just watch. As soon as Lucy was done swimming he would get onto the trampoline (ever so slowly-scarey stuff) as he did not want to be near Lucy when she shook....This summer I surely will miss that. Those little moments in time are now so precious to remember. Mike and I were very undecided where we wanted Harry's final resting place to be. We had to be careful as you know of our ever going construction here---his favorite place was on the threshold half in and half out so of course that was not possible and neither was at the back door to the new house as we still have to have excavating done there. He really did not have another favorite place to lay. It was a no brainer with Barkley---we always knew where he would be---in his favorite place near the shed....so before we called our neighbor Paul to come excavate for us we really struggled with where??? That same day Harry was telling us we feel --as when we looked out the back door---he was laying in a place he never had before and would continue to lie there over the next few days....and now of course Lucy lays there every day since...Here is a picture of Harry on the first day we discovered he was trying to tell us where---it is next to Jessica's final place....maybe Harry was not so "Forrest Gump- like" that we thought he was!!   |

This afternoon I was interviewed by a radiation oncology magazine who twice a year profile pets undergoing radiation and Dr Siegel gave them Harry's name. His radiation tech had called me last week to ask my permission and of course I said yes.....the more I get to share Harry with the better I feel that his too short but very much loved life was worth every single second!  I feel that it makes him "count" sort of the same way I feel about Smudge, angel Jessica and all the loved ones that fell to the pet food disaster!  I will let you know when the article is available! I did tell the interviewer to check out the fantastic people at this site who were the reason I got and am getting through this sadness !!! |

I've kept coming back to look at that picture of Harry since you posted it yesterday. I keep trying to find words, and coming up with "beautiful"--"spiritual"--and other, but just can't capture the fullness of what the picture and your description make me feel. The one thing I am sure of is that Harry was (and is) a unique gift and a teacher. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Carol, That is a wonderful story! It is just as you say as if he was easing your mind and telling you just what to do... I think animals talk to us and it is up to us to listen... You are so wonderful to have noticed and related it, I think it is what he wanted to tell you. I know what you mean about sharing his story to make him count... I know. Sometimes we go through the day with this empty... and we know exactly what it is... the place in our hearts that was so vastly occupied by our little ones. Sometimes I think I tire people when I want to talk about Arnold all of the time... It is because my world revolves around them... and not everyone understands. Please know Carol that just because time is passing and the days go by, I don't think of you still... I do. Every single day is a battle for me so I know just how you feel... some days are easier to handle then others we just can't help but break down... Healing is a process and a journey in itself, though, the loss is so great sometimes is it increadably hard. I don't think I will every be able to say the pain is gone, I don't think that time will take it away... I just think that we have to find comfort in knowing and remembering the purpose of our babies lives and learn from them. They accomplished what they needed to, they were faithful, patient, kind, brave, loving, and most important of all, they lived in the now. They didn't worry about tomorrow or five min. from now... they lived in the now. No matter what is going on, they look for the positive ALWAYS. They enjoy life... they enjoyed us and our love... they enjoyed their food and their home. They aren't gone for good... we are just seperated for a while. Such is life... it ends... but there is so much more that we don't know about after our life here is over... as none of us here have experienced it and when we do, I am sure we won't want to be here any longer... death is never the end... it is only the beginning of something much more wonderful it is just hard for us left behind... but one day we will catch up... just not yet. From one broken heart to another dear friend... |

Carol,
I keep coming back to look at Harry's picture too. I am so glad you are sharing him and your stories with us. Just last week my dog had a biopsy done, and being worried, I came here to reread Harry's story. You have given us all a lot of strength and determination. Thank you for sharing him with us.
