Harry with the "Golden Bone" 6/29/05--4/24/08

Today is 3 months (and also a thursday) that we said goodbye to Harry and in his memory I think it is time to share the behind the scene fiasco that he had to endure that final morning Roll Eyes....it was obvious he wanted to be alone and was in some pain--he was laying out at the back door and I desperately wanted to give him pain med to ease his pain so out the door I went with a tramadol in one clenched hand and a pouch of wellness cat food (opened) in the other---hoping that I could convince him to eat Smudge's food and sneak the pill in....but when i stepped down I stepped on the outside of my left foot causing it to pop and turn and obtain a position that I would have thought impossible at my age....and then my right foot came down in an even more unusual position resulting in my right pinky toe pointing out and away from my 4th toe in an effort to leave my foot and then came down the rest of my body---to land on my outstretched right 5th pinky finger---still holding the tramadol and the pouch of Wellness.....only to land on poor Harry---the look he gave me can only be described as "WTH" Roll Eyes.  So there I was, broken 5th toe, possible bilateral broken ankles and right wrist....and the phone rang....so i crawled into the kitchen thinking I have to answer the phone and as soon as I was able to get to it...the answering machine picked up and they hung up....so now what to do...Mike just happened to call me and then my nephew happened to show up...thank goodnes...as the next thing I hear is my late neighbor's daughter yelling, Carol, Carol, she wanted to come say hi.. so there I stood on the front stoop bearing my weight with my one good hand on the black handrail until the pain was so severe I thought I would take the tramadol, which was still in my hand..Roll Eyes. so in all this madness and sadness there are some smiles....my toe is now healed and almost looks the same, a little different is okay as it will bear the memory of me trying my very best to make my Hody comfortable!

I hope this made you smile....and I think Harry would finally be glad that I told a Carol story instead of a chicken dog one! Wink  I did not earn the name Calamity Carol from my mom for nut'n!!!

Its a wonder you didn't take the tramadol yourself Carol!  Nothing hurts so much as a stubbed pinky-toe and you say it was dislocated?  arghhhh!!!  I'm glad it has healed up.

Carol that would have looked great on video with you landing in a position you never thought possible! Harry must have had a good laugh at his mommie himself.

Oh, Carol!  These mishaps come along just when we would least want them.  I wonder what Harry thinks about all that?  Bet he can smile now, too.  Smiley

Thought I would share this beautiful picture with my pals...it was done by a poster over at the golden retriever forums...he did not know I have spent the last week walking the seawall looking at water that looks just like this!
