It has been one month since we said goodbye to our Harry. Usually time seems to fly around here -- but for some reason it seems so much longer since we have seen his sweet face, heard his not so fierce bark, and felt his ever so soft fur. We speak of him every single day. We miss him so. We are mad that poor Harry did not even reach 3 years old. Cancer is horrible. We all know someone it has touched. It is truly a monster that can strike at any time to any one. I have discovered that not only do I miss the presence of my sweet Harry I personally miss telling my Harry stories here. I really miss sharing Harry's quirkiest, funniest moments. I have decided I need to keep writing about him. And hope to still bring that spark of smile that Harry always brought us. x0x0x0 RIP Sweet Hody dody

Carol we all loved hearing about Harry and felt the deep sadness with you at his passing. I know I would appreciate knowing about Harry even more should you chose to write on the forum about him.

Please share more Harry stories, Carol. I would love to read them. Even his personality reminds me of my Bucky - now gone 17 years.

Thank you for allowing me to continue with my Harry "tails".....it was and is so healing and I get such a real sense of him when I talk about him to those that love him....and you guys make me feel that way. Thank you for missing him and loving him and remember that he is also representing "all the Harry's" that we have known and lost. Stay tuned. Carol x0x0

A wonderful idea! This is a great way for all of us to still have a part of Harry in our lives. Although his physical presence is gone, his spirit lives on, and he's still in the hearts of all of us that grew to know & love him. There's no reason to stop talking about him - his story is forever.

It is a rainy morning here In RI and after the sunny long weekend with Mike here--I find myself needing to pass on a Harry tail! Some days are harder than others as we all know. However my mornings usually start with a little smirk---because as I make the bed each day I am forced to walk to the bedside Lane hope chest that Mike bought years ago. He bought this when we were dating and it was then I said "this guy has good taste" lol...It is a beautiful pine and cedar chest with a pink country style heart on it and was very special to him. When we got married we put it in our bedroom to store our keepsakes in. It houses our wedding album, his diplomas, notes to him from my kids (his step kids), an album of his mom made by her sister at her 25th anniversary of her death (on mother's day that year) and my uncle's flag and things like that. For that reason the chest became larger than life for what it housed--so when Harry decided to use the front right bottom corner for his teething ring---at first I was horrified. Mike was sort of mad but not as much as I had thought he would be... it was a couple of days before I worked up the nerve to show it to him. I had hid the little corner piece to try to glue it on myself---never did. Now I look at the chewed up missing corner of this beloved memory holder and realize what a special memory is now on the outside for me to see every day! I don't even have to open this chest---it is right there in front of me!! I never thought something like this would make me smile but it does as it brings me back to those days when Harry and Lucy were so very little. Harry was the leader and Lucy would either follow or jump on the couch with that "Oh, Harry, we are going to get in TRR--OUBLE". lol... We wonder sometimes if Lucy would be trying to cover up Harry's deeds. If he would grab something that was not his---like my scissors or my battery screwdriver or Mike's toolbelt--she would come to me barking in her shrill-girl bark and run back to Harry where I would usually find something in his mouth....I also could tell that Harry had something he shouldn't as he had the ability to walk without moving a muscle except his legs---we just knew that something bad was in his mouth by his stealth walk away from us!! No tail motion, no shoulder motion, no head motion, just a still body with legs moving ever so slowly!! lol... Sunday and Monday I had to clip some grass near the fence and was using my blue scissors that require gloves to use as there are little bites marks that hurt my fingers now---but these are the scissors I look for to use! When I use my little battery screwdriver I have to give it a push as it is loose due to some teethmarks !! I love seeing teethmarks now---and they are never Lucy's!! and I don't even know where that little corner piece of the hope chest is---but it doesn't matter as I never would want it back on!

Carol That is so true about the preciousness of the bite marks! You really develop a sense of humour and come to appreciate that "stuff" isn't everything. Kyoto, my oldest, did some puppy teething on the ear of a wooden fox sculpture that I had on the floor beside the fireplace. It's still there, and I've shaved the one ear down (many years ago; Kyoto will be 11 in September) so it is a little smaller than the other one. Karinoe was still chewing when I got him as a 7 month old rescue. I have a stereo speaker with one corner chewed off. This past week, I replaced my stereo with a new unit that doesn't require the small set of rear speakers, so I'm giving them away with the warning that one has been chewed... Then there is the tudor-style antique dining room table, which had some decoration chewed off one of the legs, and a few small nibbles on the support underneath. I just turned it around so it's towards the wall and less noticeable. I guess I could sand and stain it a little to minimize the visibility, but if anyone asks, I just say, "I have dogs."
