I'm so sorry to read about the loss of your Max. After such a long and happy life together, I know that it is so hard to part. I too hope you can come to the peaceful realization that living in such love, you did the loving thing for him.

JoMax,

Please feel free to share whatever memories you have of Max in this thread as a memorial to him. (The Den can be used to share pictures and stories of your other pets.)

I miss you, my sweet Thunder kitty

I'm sorry you lost Max so suddenly. The decision to end suffering is the hardest thing a pet owner must do and is a burden we have all shared. Your sweet Max had a good long life and now he is at peace.

JoMax - I am with everyone in saying I am so sorry for your loss of Max. Beginning in 2007 I've had three crf kitties, the first
acute and dying rapidly. Nothing will exactly replace Max; not possible. But I'm sure Max would also tell you thank you for the
extra special time you shared together despite the chronic disease. Hugs, w 2 still treating, 3 cats

Ah - sorry, I didnt see the second page before - even more tears...

Caylee, thanks for the reply about sharing more of Max here...maybe over the coming days, I must try & get some sleep now.  I dont know how many of you are in the US or UK, but you may have guessed I'm the latter.  Awareness of CRF is improving here, but I still read of ideas/treatments in the States before they are widespread here - esp. with vets.  Tho' my 2nd vet was much more advanced - she gave the phos binder without my asking - which I'd tried to get the prev one to prescibe for months.  But still argued with me against Aluminium hydroxide, preferring Ipakitine.  (Still can't get Alugel in UK)

Anyhow max was a pussycat with her & the nurses there - he even allowed his nails to be clipped during ordinary visits (as I said before, the prev vet had to sedate him to even get a blood sample)

Anyhow, goodnight all, I shall go & sit by his candle and think/talk to him before I go to sleep

JoMax very sorry in the passing of your beloved Max. Really appreciated your sharing of his poem. Especially giving the pussycat blessings every day - that will stay with me forever as it is such a special thing your shared with us.

Thank you all again - it's been a tough few days (worse cos my other cat then fell ill & spent 2 days in the vets - we were out of our minds.  But she's home today & a lot perkier - tho v pissed she cant go out!
I'll share her story & pics on the Den later.

My b/f wrote Max a letter today - and it's totally gutted me all over again.  I'd like to share it with you, even tho its a bit long:-
_____________________________________________________________
Letter to Max- The Handsome Pussy Cat

Max: The first time ever I saw your handsome face- I knew that we would be friends

Max: The first time and every time we shared Marmite- I knew that we were friends

Max:  handsome pussy cat, mew, meow, Maxy boy, mew, mew- You always had the last meow.

Max: I loved your indomitable, tenacious, incorrigible spirit.
Your leap from table to record deck, sliding down the other side. And coming back with a defiant yowl.
The way you finally climbed the fence, in the days before we left Gwydir Street.
Your curiosity for cupboards, and anything I ate.(and was always happy to share)
And the way you always fought back, when you and your body were under attack.

Max: I loved your affectionate spirit. Always so warm and keen.
The way when I came in, even though your limbs were getting old, you would rise from your chair and lie on the floor doing a soppy roll.
The way you would lie down next to me, and present your tummy for stroking and softly vibrate away. Oh stretchy boy.
The blissed out look on your face, every time you licked the marmite from my finger
And every day you woke me. (especially after you had been diagnosed). It felt like a bonus day, in my life and yours.

Max: I am sorry you went so soon. And I wished I’d known you, and Jo and Eppie sooner. I will miss you every day.
And I promise that whenever I eat Marmite, which is almost every day. I will think of you and remember all our precious time together.

Max: I hope you still come to visit me in my dreams, like you have before (leader of the Meerkats!). And I hope we feel your presence for a long time And I will smile and blink at the sofa or the cushion where you used to sit. In the hope that your spirit can see me and know I still love you.

Max: I hope that when I die, my spirit will find yours. Sitting on a big red sofa, with chicken, Greek yoghurt and Marmite. Doing a soppy roll, just waiting to be stroked and we can converse again.

Max: I love you handsome pussy cat and will love you always. Thank you for letting me share these last four years and four months. Love you Maxy boy.
Mew, mew, mew, meow. rup.

RIP Bones - my big, beautiful boy

« Reply #26 on: August 31, 2009, 10:55:00 AM »

Cry Cry Cry Oh, that's just beautiful, Jo. Both of you have written such lovely words for your little angel.

I think that if any of my cats had ever eaten Marmite, I would have given them a medal. That was one special cat you had. With a spirit like his, he'll undoubtably visit you in creative ways. Watch for his presence.
