We had to let Cameo go tonight.   Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

We found out the results of the MRI about 3 hours ago.  Cameo had multiple lesions all along her spine.  They could not tell from the MRI if they were cancerous, some strange infectious disease process, or what, but it was clearly not any kind of injury.  It was destroying her spinal cord at multiple points.  There was no hope that she would ever walk again; by this point, she wasn't even able to go to the bathroom on her own.  Based on what had happened in the past week, and how rapidly it had progressed, she was clearly near the end.  The vet said that she looked like she was in even more pain this morning, despite the meds she was getting.

When we went to visit her this evening after getting the results of the MRI, I could tell that it was time, by the look in her eyes.  There was no question in my mind, and I don't think in the mind of the attending doctor, either.

Farewell, my sweet Cameo.  You were so wise and funny and brave.  You survived a hurricane.  Six years was far too short a time to know you.  But then, you were so special that even a hundred years would have been nowhere near enough.

Catbird, I am so sorry that you had to let Cameo go to the Bridge tonight.  Six years is not enough, you are right in that 100 years is not enough either.
You gave her the best home that a cat could have. She is no longer in pain and is running free and easily with the other angels at the Bridge. Rest in peace special Angel Cameo.

Catbird and family,

It doesn't matter if someone's big or small, old or young, the size of the love you have for them is bigger than the sky.  We're never ready to let go of those we love, no matter what.  What counts is that Cameo had the love and care of all of you for the rest of her life after Hurricane Katrina.  She may have been with you for only six years, but she will stay in your hearts forever.   Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

catbird,
As I type this through my tears, my heart is breaking for you and your family.   Cry   Cry   Cry  I had so hoped that there was going to be the opportunity to make her well again.  Please take a little comfort in that you were able to give her those six years she may not have had if you had not rescued her after Katrina.  You gave her that second chance, and she gave you much love in return.  Now she awaits you at the Bridge for a joyful reunion in the future.  Until then, she is healthy and well, and knows you let her go so that could be. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.  {{hugs}}  Rest in peace, sweet Angel Cameo.   Cry

 Cry Cry Cry Cry

Just writing and crying. I'm so sorry she had to go. I don't even really have words right now. I thought it would be alright when I got back here tonight. I know she isn't in pain anymore but she's going to miss you guys. No, she really didn't have enough time with you. It's not fair -- after everything she went through and survived. I can't even offer any wisdom today. I'm just so crushed over this.

RIP little Cameo. You are loved.

I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to your precious Cameo. At least with the MRI you found out the true extent of what was happening and were able to give her the release she needed. My thoughts are with you and your family at this very sad time.

I've never met you or Cameo, but I feel such shock and sorrow.  I couldn't help but cry to read your post, Catbird.  I know that Cameo was your heart cat.   Cry Cry Cry

I'm sending you and your family tons of warmth.  I am so sorry - I know how very much it hurts.

I will light a candle for your sweet Cameo and continue to send your family healing wishes.

Catbird,
I am so very sorry and sad.  Cameo was so beautiful, loving and wise.  Wise in picking you to rescue her, and in helping you to get her help, in her final days.  And through the pain, being loving to your family, and to all caring for her in recent days.

May she soar now.

I wish you and your family peace and healing.  Our days with them are limited, but the love is forever.

Oh no, I just came to check on her progress and am stunned to read this.  Poor Cameo, poor you - it's always hard to loose our dear furry ones, but for you to have to say goodbye to such a special heart-girl is so, so, sad - my heart goes out to you & your family as you mourn this tough little kittie-girl who came to you in such special circumstances and shared 6 years of love.  But that sharing continues in your heart and in her spirit as she watches over you now forever.

I wish you peace and healing in your grief over the days & weeks to come.
Many hugs, JoMax

I am so sorry, Catbird, that Cameo is gone.  {{{hugs}}} to you and your family.

Myths of the Manx Cats:

‘When Noah was calling the animals into the Ark, there was one cat that was having trouble finding a mouse and she took a notion that she wouldn't go into the Ark without one. So at last, when Noah had all the animals safe inside, and he saw the rain beginning to fall, and no sign of her coming in, he slammed the door as she ran in and caught the tail of a cat, so she got in without it, and that is why Manx cats have no tails to this day”.

From the Isle of Man:
"The king of the Manx is a cat by day, and a little faery king by night - it is said that he travels the lanes in a fiery carriage."

Surely, Catbird's Cameo must be the Queen of the Manx.

Rest in Peace, sweet Cameo, at Rainbow's Bridge. Cry
