Janet, I'm so sorry to hear of Bennie's passing. Having a friend for that long is truly a blessing and it sounds like you were her hero when she needed you the most. I hope you can find peace in the knowledge that she knew your love and kindness and that you will be reunited one day.
Prayers and hugs.

Last night I was sitting on my back porch and could hear a radio playing softly from our community swimming pool. The only words I could make out from so far away was the chorus from Rod Stewart's "You're in My Heart".
You're in my heart, you're in my soul You'll be my breath should I grow old You are my lover and my best friend You're in my soul
I found comfort in those words...

Catbird, Thanks for asking about us. We are doing OK.
The other day I realized that the morning of June 22nd was the first morning in 33 years that I have woken up without a cat in the house.
Like Ned and many others, I had my daily routine of caring for Bennie and still find myself wanting to check on her several times a day.
As we all know, after so many years together, adjusting to the emptiness in the house is difficult.
But we did have to laugh at ourselves in the first few days that Bennie was back home with us. We kept moving her urn around the house so that she could be with us...from the kitchen to the bedroom to the living room, etc. One afternoon I looked at DH and said, "Oh my gosh, where did we leave Bennie???" We realized that at our age, with "senior moments" setting in from time to time, we were best served by choosing just a couple places for Bennie rather than moving her around the house. She now spends her time on the fireplace mantel or in her basket on the screened-in porch...
She always loved to visit us at dinnertime to receive a few nibbles of whatever it was we were having to eat that night (steak was her favorite). Every evening since, we've raised our glasses in a toast to Bennie...
Again Catbird, thanks for asking...
