Carol, what a wonderful and loving tribute to Barkley. What a fitting name to such a handsome pet. He was so lucky that your family was able to adopt him.
Thanks for sharing his pictures with us. Now I can see why Harry and Lucy have such big paws to fill. LOL.......
I hope that one day, I,too, can also smile when I look over at Marley's spot. I know it will take time.
Just by looking at his picture, I can just imagine all the wonderful memories and stories you have of Barkley.

Thanks, Carol. Brought back good memories of my two Goldens, Casey and Bucky. Bucky was Casey's pup, born in a big box in our bedroom. He nearly grieved himself sick when we lost her to a brain tumor in '87 when she was 10. We lost him in '90 when he was 12. He was and is the best dog we've ever had. So gentle with our babies and cats. I'll always miss him, but I can smile when I think of both of them.

I just read mgt's post on her thread with the song lyrics--- this song is what my hubby and I call Barkley's song ---of course it is from Annie Lenox--Into the West On his laptop he has it set to play this song when we open Barkley's picture file----I think it pertains to alot of our loved ones here. I now think of Jessica too with these lyrics.... Into The West Artist:Annie Lennox
Lay down, your sweet and weary head. Night is falling. You have come to journey’s end.
Sleep now,and dream of the ones who came before. They are calling, from across a distant shore.
Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see. All of your fears will pass away. Safe in my arms, you’re only sleeping.
What can you see, on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea, a pale moon rises. The ships have come, to carry you home.
And all will turn, to silver glass. A light on the water. All souls pass.
Hope fades, Into the world of night. Through shadows falling, Out of memory and time.
Don’t say, We have come now to the end. White shores are calling. You and I will meet again. And you’ll be here in my arms, Just sleeping.
What can you see, on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea, a pale moon rises. The ships have come, to carry you home.
And all will turn, to silver glass. A light on the water. Grey ships pass Into the West.

Carol, that is beautiful... I also listen to certain songs when I stroll through my baby's photos... I have his picture all over my walls too... just to feel closer to him. I cried when I read your lyrics... I know we all found each other here for a reason, because we all understand each other's pain. Your little Barkley and little Jessica are precious. They are very loved... yesterday, today, and tomorrow, always... and are terrably missed, until we see then again... I keep you in my prayers and in my thoughts my dear friend...

Carol, that is one of my absolute all-time favorite songs! For those of you who don't know it well, it is from the end of the movie "Return of the King" in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. If you look into the history of the song, I believe some of the lyrics were written by a young person dying of a terminal disease, which makes it even more profound. I've been known to sing it in my car for hours during times of grief.

I was going through our pictures today trying to sort them and I cam upon this one of Barkley in the Summer of 2004---We thought at age 12 comfort before beauty!!! When we brought him home from the groomers, both Jessica and Smudge didn't recognize him and both hissed and ran away from him like he was a different dog!! It was hilarious----then they must have recognized his smell---and then they wouldn't leave him alone!

Awww Carol, what a handsome boy. I think he looked so proud of himself, kind of like the first time a little boy puts on a suit. And those dear, sweet, aging eyes, reall tugs at the heart strings.

That's funny the cats didn't recognize him! I'm sure he liked his cool short cut, looks like a yellow lab with a funky tail!

Carol- He looks cool which is what mattered !I laughed about the cats not knowing him . My DH has always had a beard & mustache & when the kids were 3 & 6 he decided to shave them off. When he came out that way, both kids started crying. They didn't know him w/o it.

Carol,
Barkley looks cool! He is very handsome and is the spitting image of our male golden whom we lost several years ago to a brain tumor. I laughed about the cats not knowing who Barkley was after the haircut. A beautiful memorial to a very precious boy.
Sending good thoughts
Katie

I wanted these two separate as they need a story.. this picture we took as the cross was to signify my mom as we had planted this little garden for her when we moved to Maine for school. She was older and did not get around too well but she wanted some flowers to take care of. We lost her the summer of 2000 at age 85 and this is how the flowers grew---we did not do anything to them...they seemed to circle the cross...with Barkley standing guard.. and this is Barkley's statue that took us weeks to find...and the last scarf that he was given by my niece..
