I was just able to download this picture.  This is Barkley's statue and plaque.  He lost his fight with hemangiosarcoma on July 24, 2005.  Harry and Lucy have heard many stories about beloved Barkley and they know what big paws they have to fill!

We still miss him so much.

Carol,

That's so beautiful!  Barkley is lucky pup to have such a memorial garden.

There's a story about this garden---this used to be an old greenhouse that my father won in bingo and was falling down---my husband and I used it as a "workshop" as my husband discovered he loved woodworking.  Where the statue is the door to the old greenhouse was and that is where Barkley used to lie while we were "building" in the greenhouse.  We renovated this into a shed and moved the door but we still wanted Barkley to lie in his place---the roses are planted there as they were grown from Maine sea roses (I don't know the real name) that we picked when we were leaving Maine to move back to our house in RI (My husband went to UNE)  We got Barkley when we left Maine when a fellow med student couldn't take him on her rotations in the third year and we were lucky to get him---there were three other families "interviewing" for him!  My sister in law made the plaque!

Thanks for listening--- Grin

I love Barkley's garden.  It seems so peaceful.  Barkley looks like he retained a puppy-like innocence into his senior years.  And now he is forever young and joyful.

It's a beautiful memorial, and he looks to have been a real sweetie.  Great pictures!  Thanks for telling us about the reasons you chose that spot, too.  What a wonderful way to honor his memory!

Your memorial to Barkley is beautiful, Carol. It's good that you can smile when thinking about him.

I still choke up when thinking of my Tami (gone since '90) and Toby (gone since '01). I've had other cats but those two were so special to me.
