Do we need to add taurine to home-made dog diets, too? I've come across a couple of references to it by accident. One on the NB website http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/home/health.htmlSo, I googled these names and came across this. http://www.k9magazinefree.com/k9_perspective/iss7p20.shtmldilated cardiomyopathy again, this time in dogs. Maybe we should have separate feline and canine taurine threads?

I've been seeing more & more reference lately to dogs needing more taurine than they have been getting in commercial foods. Some of them are now adding it as a result.

Oh, please leave us in here with the cats! That is where the action is. I didn't even know that I was giving Poco 250mg of taurine a day until I was looking at this thread and a light bulb went on. Poco has been taking a cardio formula, first Thorne's and now Vetri-Science's for years and it seems to have truly helped with a heart murmur. It was recommended by a holistic vet. If I quit giving him the formula, the murmur comes back. Here is what is currently in it. Active Ingredients Per Capsule: L-Carnitine . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 250 mg L-Taurine . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 250 mg N,N-Dimethylglycine HCl . . . . . . . . . . .50 mg d-alpha tocopheryl succinate (Vitamin E) . . 30 IU Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) . . . . . . . . .25 mg Coenzyme Q10 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 20 mg Gamma Linolenic Acid . . . . . . . . . . . . 10 mg Folic Acid . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .0.9 mg Magnesium (as Magnesium Citrate/Malate) . . 0.5 mg Potassium (as Potassium Citrate/Malate) . . 0.1 mg Selenium (as Sodium Selenite) . . . . . . 0.007 mg The vet we are seeing now has gone over all his supplements to make sure he's not overdosing anything. He gets one a day in the morning.

That one is Vetri-Science. I think Thorne still has a similiar product and I have used both and had good results with Poco. I can get a good OTC deal on the Vetri-Science so use that currently.

ah! Thanks, Klondike... Vetriscience almost always churns out a good product... I am very very happy with their Renal Essentials and Multi-vits senior formulas too!

Kaffe, et al I'm going to stick this in to consider especially for cats. Suffice it to say that I've ordered Taurine for me and the Pita Cats While I've been adding Taurine to my green tea, I also had "a moment" and added it to my Diet Code Red Mountain Dew Foam, lots of foam.. what was that experiment with mentos? This one with Taurine would be a good youtube Or, a Bounty commercial for the two-sheeter

I'm sorry it was at your expense, Offly, ear old freind --- but I kinda did a similar "thoughtless moment" with a RedBull drink one time - thought is was a good idea to add 1/4 tsp taurine in it --- it made a ghastly mess on the kitchen bench
