JustMe, I saw it too, thought it was pretty well done.  Though a couple of her dog recipes had grains, it was whole grains and I think talked about things you could substitute.  She also covered raw feeding quite a bit and did talk about the pet food recall and how it was a wake-up call.  The vet talked about no grains for cats.  She did add garlic to her dog food recipe but also made it clear, that doing that was controversial.  Overall I think she covered all the points very well.  One thing I liked is she said you cant tell a person how to feed their pet anymore than you can tell a person what to feed their child, so true, its a personal thing.  I didnt know about Evangers food prior to her show, I checked out the Evangers canned cat food and it looks pretty good.  They dont make dry cat food from what I can see.  Wish it wasnt so expensive to ship to Alaska.  Anyhow, I thought she did a pretty good job, Im glad to see someone trying to tackle the subject on pet food, no one else has been willing to take it on since the recalls happened that Im aware of.

Sandi K,

Thanks again for alerting us about the program.

I thought she did a good job, too.  She certainly packed a lot of information into a 1-hour program.  My head was spinning.

Did you see when they were hand packing fish into cans?

She should make it a regular program.   Cheesy

JustMe, I was thinking the same thing, she should make it a regular show about pet feeding.  I also saw they packed whole pieces of chicken into cans, bone and all and then it gets pressure cooked.  Its kind of curious that she did the show in the first place, I didnt realize she paid attention to the recalls, etc.  Wonder if she's been viewing Itchmo?   She covered so many things that we all talk about on a regular basis.   Shocked

wish I could have seen the Evanger's plant - did it look nice & clean & organized, with healthy ingredients being added?  Wonder if it was the new plant.

Petslave, one thing I remember them saying as they interviewed the owners of Evangers is that you have to know your supplier, he said you cant know your supplier if they are in a different country.  They avoided any of the pet food recalls.  They implied the supplier they use also purchases ingredients for human food and they shop at the same place for all the ingredients.

Did she discuss the difference between making pet food for your pets versus giving them leftovers? I've always wondered what leftovers or scraps a dog can eat and shouldn't (obviously not chicken).

Hounddog, you know I dont remember if she really covered that or not, I kind of dont think so, it was more on cooking for the pets, mainly dogs.  She covered so much in that small amount of time, it was hard to remember.  She and the vet did talk about some thing that werent good for them, like grapes and other stuff.

I think she did briefly discuss table scraps.  I'm going to try and watch again if I have time.

"I think she did briefly discuss table scraps." She did. She asked the vet, who I liked allot;), (very knowledgeable), about table scraps. The vet said that table scraps used to be unhealthy for your pets. But, today, many people are choosing to eat healthy. If you are among that group, eliminating foods that are not good for your pets, you can put leftovers into their food. As long as they are HEALTHY leftovers, and safe for your pets consumption.
The show did focus on dog food, but, I think, and this is just my opinion, that might have been because they offer only a couple of cat foods so far, and they are all carb high. They may not know yet that cat food should not be loaded with vegetables. Cats are obligate carnivours. I am hoping they will change their ingredients in their cat food.
The plant was spotless. All their ingredients are purchased from a human food market, right here in the USA. They claimed they will not purchase damaged or rotted, or anything not fit for sale to humans. I had never heard of them. I went to their website, after the show, ans checked it out. I was impressed enough to photo copy what I thought might be acceptable for my new dog, and take it to my vet for his opinion, on which one, if any, would be the best for her. He liked the pure venison best. He wants me to mix it with cooked brown rice, to raise up the fiber content. As soon as I contact them as to the source of their venison, (to make sure the deer are not grazing on toxic lands), I will be giving it a try. I know, I am manic about all of it. But, three dead out of four, well, I know I will always be overvigal for the rest of my life.
LOL!!:)Smiley My sister lives in Chicago. I have asked her, when she has some time on a day off, to go and visit the plant and check it out in person. If I do switch over, it will be the first non-home cooked dog food in this house, since my new dog arrived.
Rachel is an animal lover just like all of us. She and her husband have a wonderful female Pit Bull that is the light of their life. She did this show because of their love for the animals, and to try and find a store bought food that is safe for our kids. She did allot of research for the show. I have to complement her very highly for her efforts. If only the other celebs would follow, maybe the government would start to listen.

We were at Wal-Mart today and I noticed a new kind of dog food.  It had Rachel Ray's pic on the front and I believe the food was called Nutrishion or Nutrish or something like that.  I dont have a dog but I had to check the ingredients on the bag, partly because of this show she had before touting good food for your pet, etc.  Well, I was disappointed, to say the least.  I didnt get past the first few ingredients which were corn gluten and some other things, basically it looked like the run of the mill poor quality dog food that you would find anywhere.....Rachel Ray, you ought to be ashamed.  I really would have thought after her pet food show that she had a clue but now she's put her name on just another bag of cwap for peoples pets.  I guess maybe she is no different than the PFC's, money, money, money.....

That is rather disappointing (as in the one's others endorse - they tend to be in animal food stores).  I wonder if she knows what is going on?

Have read about this food on some other forums as well but so far haven't found any actual product info.  A user on another board listed the first five ingredients as:
Beef
chicken meal
brewers rice
corn meal
soybean meal
I haven't seen the food but read that the picture on the front is RR cooking a nice meal.  How typical of pet food advertising!  : (
