What can i mix chicken with other than liver ? he loved that but now I've found  out that liver is bad for him also.So i tried just a little liver chicken & the squash baby food with kibble broken up & sprinkled. No he didn't eat that. So then i tried just the chicken with broth from cooked chicken & kibble nope.By this time I'm getting frustrated so i just took out the Wellness & gave him that. Then next thing i Know i read that the can of Wellness has some kind of BPA or something in the can that's bad as well  Huh  so i am just frustrated   Sad Sad  and I'm trying to decide what to do I just don't know anymore at this point! Oh & the Wellness Chicken seems to have a lot of liver as well b/c it has the 2nd or 3rd ingredient as liver. Any Suggestions? would be helpful ! thank you ankc

My 5 will eat chicken, but they prefer turkeyor pork. Liver isn't bad,you just can't use too much of it. If he won't eat the homemade without liver, try adding just a little to prevent Vit A overdose.M
edited to fix Oreo's addition ! You can try adding some hearts or gizzards or wild caught salmon also. None of mine are keen on baby food veggies, they prefer pureed fresh green beans, broccoli or carrots. We do occasional zucchini & kale also. The cats like peas, but Remy has an allergic reaction to them.

how about chicken hearts? clams? pink salmon? ground turkey? eggs? cheese? liver broth? gizzards?

Why is liver bad for him? Can he take small amounts? A little bit of liver goes a long way taste wise.

Mine seem to like hearts, bloodthirsty little critters that they are.  And I have very picky cats.

You could try mixing in some hard boiled or scrambled eggs. Or you could just use cooked egg whites. If adding any veggies, go very small with the amounts you are mixing in with the cooked meat.

Well before i knew about the liver I had cooked, processed & mixed up a batch of liver & hearts with chicken & a little turkey. There's Not much i can do about it now that it's mixed & frozen. Right now i don't have a lot of $ b/c I'm getting ready to move and it costs a lot but i can try some other things that you all suggested. To much liver is Not supposed to be good Ill get the link & post it. Maybe some ground turkey i did try hamburger once he didn't go for that at least i would have leftovers if he didn't like turkey I'd be the one eating it leftover cat food  Cheesy  . Thank you so much for your help. ankc

Whenever I make a batch they aren't crazy about.I make a new batch & defrost 1 of the old & mix them. That usually works fine. Just mark them batch 1 & 2 so you can defrost 1 of each.Scrambled eggs are a great way to add interest to a food batch they aren't crazy about.

There is less phosperous in the white, which is a concern for cats with kidney problems. As long as you have no kidney issues, the yolk & white are fine.

Ground turkey I tried ground beef (fried) he didn't seem to care for it what other ways are there to cook ground beef/turkey  how do you cook it for your cats? Thank You ankc

I haven't found any clams or salmon without salt. I just empty them into a colander & rinse twice. I have found sardines & herring that are salt free though,Season's & Brunswick come that way. Some cats don't like ground or pureed, they prefer slices or chunks. Temperature & texture do matter for some of them. You could try making a meatloaf out of the ground meat & baking it ,cut it up small afterwards.Just mix any grains and veggies into it & use beaten eggs as the binder.Make sure you drain the fat as it cooks though. You won't be able to add pre or probiotics into it that way,& would need extra taurine as heat damages that too. Everything else vitamin & mineral wise should be ok though. My cats prefer mostly pureed with some cut up meat in it. The dogs will eat anything, but do like meatloaf best.

Thank You lesliek Going shopping today i think i'll check to see how much $ their mackerel, white fish & cod are there's a recipe for Mackerel (pg 81) This recipe calls for 3 cups whole milk have you or anyone ever used powered milk or what is good substitute? (pg 81 Pitcarins) going to try that for an occasional treat.was thinking of leaving out the vitamins as he gets vitamins from the Wellness I am giving on every other day rotation (except egg shell I'll put that in if I have enough) maybe with the 4 eggs the recipe calls for it'll be enough and try the squash again maybe if i can get Squash mixed in really well he won't even know it's there and the fish may mask squash taste. Also I am trying to give him more home made & less kibble what are the amounts & how many times a day do you all feed canned /homemade ? I am feeding Wellness & home cooked on rotation was just feeding him in evening (with kibble free feeding) Now I am giving him Wellness/home cooked 2 times per day morning & evening. ankc

The amount varies by weight & activity level. Mine eat wet food twice a day[homemade only] & get either a homemade treat or a few pieces of Natures Logic kibble, a Zukes treat or Grandma Lucy's freeze dried fish for a treat at lunch & bedtime.Oreo is 12 lbs & very active & 8,he gets 2 rounded Tbsp's twice daily. Punkin is much bigger at 17 lbs & still very active even though he's 17,he gets 3 rounded or 2 heaping Tbsp's twice daily. They do get occasional tidbits of our food after dinner, they all love pizza crust ! I would be careful about using any powdered milk right now unless you contact the co & they will tell you where its from.I don't use milk because Oreo & Remy have stomach problems with dairy.I usually substitute homemade broth for that in recipes, just remember if you skip the milk adjust the added calcium up to compensate.4 eggshells will give you plenty of ground unless you are making a really big batch of food. I wouldn't make any big batches until you see if he will eat that recipe. If he is still eating the Wellness I would only add calcium & taurine, maybe fish oil & probiotics.
