also: NOW Bone Meal from US cattle. even thoughmost of the shops don't have free shipping (classified as perconal care not groceries), i noticed a couple had free shipping deals, so it may be worth checking the shops for other things you may need now or soon Smiley

Thanks for the post, my vitamin store that stocks NOW has been out of taurine for MONTHS, they can't keep it on their shelves. Either people are mixing their own energy drinks or starting cat food businesses!

I found it interesting that Taurine powder shipped in large quantities is considered a health hazardous material (http://cameochemicals.noaa.gov/chemical/21060) and the boxes marked with a class 6 poison symbol for handlers!  (major respiratory and skin irritant in powder form but a lifesaver when mixed with food). I have the picture somewhere.
http://environmentalchemistry.com/yogi/hazmat/placards/)

I also noted of all the foods out there the ones that have the HIGHEST amounts of natural taurine were - CLAMS.  http://www.serve.com/BatonRouge/taurine_chmr.htm

So I got a really good source of clams, prepared them diligently and offered them to CAT.

CAT sniffed once, then hopped backwards in sheer fright - did his 4 puddy paw gallop "someone is trying to kill me " right under the bed.

lol! thankfully my clan of feline five will *do* clams. i just bought a couple of cases off clams/spring water/citric acid of amazon. we're set for the year and i may even get to make some chowder  Wink

i'm cruising amazon daily off my shopping list i set up there. it's so much easier for me to get discounts, check sources etc. and the bulk buying is saving me a ton! this AM i realized i had saved enough to pay for my new freezer with a good chunk left over to go towards the new window AC i need for my office/work room. and the time i'll be saving not going to the store all the time will be GREAT!!! and no more reading those freakin' itty bitty labels!

try mixing the clam in with a ground meat that they like in small doses and build up. my cat's favorite meal is what i call gut mash. it's the hearts, livers, gizzards, clams and everything else they need to balance out the raw diet. i originally made it as an easier way to mix it into the gound in percentages, but they like it on it's own, so they will get a small gut mash meal and then sep ground meat/bones. i still mix it sometimes, but i personally get a kick out of asking who wants gut mash, and having them all come running!   Grin

interesting info on the taurine! thanks!!

just to find out what food is a source of taurine found this site: http://www.petcarenaturally.com/book_health_bible.php On there sources are: meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products & fish are good sources of taurine in case anyone wanted to add that to their cat food instead of trying to find supplements that are not from China.

interesting last sentence of the article:

As with any supplement taken in multigram doses, it is important to purchase a reputable product, because a contaminant present even in small percentages could cause problems.

A contaminant? That puts the icing on the cake - there are so many in so many things we are learning about every day. Pet Food, toothpaste, contact lens solution, listerine, and the FDA manages to tell us a couple weeks later after how many could have been saved? Just like the pet food companies that waited til it was already too late for a lot of beloved kids and their parents. They are all just SCUM, pure SCUM. They belong with all the pedofile clergymen - THE other group of pure SCUM.
