"you can always add clams or sardines (with the juices)" salmon juice is also supposed to be high in Taurine, and don't forget hearts! just remember to make sure all seafood is from safe waters kaffe, i was looking at the organ recipes you posted. my cats LOVE a good chicken gut mash!! it's gotta be one of the grosser things (for me) to prepare, but all the slurping and purrs are sure worth it! hmm, think i'll make some tomorrow. i love it when they put me on a pedestal! I actually made a chopped-ground raw and a cooked version... I had a lot of complaints from the other inhabitants of the house about the smell of the liver! ha ha ha ha ... I don't care.... the cats seem to love this reallu gross guts feast. Maybe I should rename that recipe to: "Grossiest Guts Feast"

my mom called one day and asked what i was doing "Making Gut Mash" lol!~ yeah, i think i like raw because you avoid THAT smell. GAG!! i should prob also make dehydrated liver tomorrow as it's going to be mid-60s and i can open the windows! if you ever need alone time, now you know how to get that time! lol!~ i think my grossest moment for me was when i first started making baked liver treats. i was whirling the mixture in the blender. forgot it was pet treats and licked the spoon.

No special equipment, no fancy ingredients, and it worked!
All I need is a food processor now.

I got my food processor (it is a nice one) for half price because the color was being discontinued by the company--no longer "fashionable." I could never have afforded it at full price; it wasn't easy at half price. But I think it has paid for itself in many ways in allowing me to prepare things myself from fresh ingredients/without additives. I have also seen them in resale shops for reasonable prices. Probably from the people who re-painted their kitchens and the old ones didn't match any more.

Don't know if my cooking is so excellent, but I am sure glad they are eating it! The credit belongs to kaffe who came up with the recipe.

That is good news, catbird! Kaffe's tips are really helpful, aren't they? Cameo's reaction to the raw chicken tidbits was interesting. She's a thinker. (I suspect anxiety is an expression of intelligence.)

you mean... I'm THAT intelligent? ha ha ha ha ha I love that quote. "Anxiety is an expression of intelligence." Will print that one out and put it above my head behind the computer chair. It'll explain my paranoia over cat food! Right above the other quote: "May Contain Nuts."

On the contrary: all credit belongs to you and your kitties, Catbird. To you for the courage to step out of the box and to your kitties for their implicit trust in you (and your cooking! hee hee hee!) At any rate, I am just very happy for you and your kitties.

I never thought of it that way before, but you are right about Cameo. She is absolutely the smartest cat I have ever met, and I have both cared for and known a lot of cats. She's also a trauma survivor (Hurricane Katrina), which may also account for some of her caution.

After 4 days of getting the homemade chicken diet every night for dinner, Linley has developed gas that smells like chicken, only worse. He doesn't seem uncomfortable, but I sure am. (In fact, my eyes are starting to water.) I think I will scale back to every other day for dinner for now, til maybe more of a tolerance is developed. He does eat a lot of it when he gets it because he has a big appetite now.
Was going to fix split pea soup for my family's supper, but I think I'll find something else now...
